Another Peek into My Pantry

I found a beautiful brown transferware pitcher on Thursday at a rummage sale.

Here it is on display in my pantry. There is a window to the left behind the geranium.

Here is the other side showing my little downstairs desk where I work on my blog with my laptop. This little room is a favorite place because it's small and has two windows. The one with the desk looks out to my front garden and the one behind looks out on my barn/garage in the back. When I bought my cottage, it was a tiny screened porch.
I have enjoyed a rainy Saturday baking muffins and just being generally busy doing inside chores and reading. More rain is predicted for tomorrow too. Have a great weekend. xo

My Recycled Kitchen Farm Sink

Here are several shots of my re-purposed kitchen sink found on the side of the road. It's a vintage porcelain double laundry sink with a center divider and slanted front for the wash boards. The drains are solid brass. It was awful looking when I found it a few doors down from my old house in a pile ready for the yearly trash pickup. Yes, you read that right...yearly. Around here people have to save their non-garbage stuff for a whole year and believe me it leads to pack-rat behavior in many households. This sink had been used in a basement forever and there were lots of rust stains from old tin cans, paint splatters, and just plain dirt. I though it would clean up nicely and it did with lots of elbow grease, CLR, steel wool, Softscrub, Zud, and whatever else I could find that wouldn't harm vitreous porcelain. I even got the shine to come back. Then I stored it in my barn for the day my plumber could tell me if it would work as a kitchen sink in my cottage. As you can see, it's perfect. It's super deep and wonderful for soaking big soup pots, washing sweaters, filling up my watering can, etc. It's under-mounted with a marble counter on top. I couldn't be happier with it. Lucky me!

Unseen Corner of My Pantry Office

This is the corner to the left of my Dutch door going into the home office in my pantry. The back window overlooks my red barn garage. I found the little cork board before Christmas and the window with the bicycle was blank and the glass had become dislodged behind the cork. I added the bicycle graphic that I had always loved and was already printed and ready to go. I organized my favorite things and several appointments on both boards yesterday. I am going to deal with little things like this that I have been sweeping under the rug. So Happy. We have light snow this morning and I need to go out before it gets any worse. Have a great weekend. Stay warm and good luck with the snow at your house. xo

My Deer Weathervane Finally Mounted

I had this vane on a barn at my former house. It has been stored in the loft over my garage since 2004. I had a large Chestnut tree cut down but left the stump about shoulder high. The tree was diseased with a weevil and the chestnuts were not edible. Even the squirrels wouldn't eat them last year. It was a very messy tree on the edge of my driveway always dropping something all year long. Tassels in the spring all over the roof over my kitchen and my car. They stained my balcony floor too. Then the pricker balls in the fall were especially painful to pick up after raking. Missy learned early on not to walk down the driveway after she stepped on a few. My handyman came today and flattened the mount and screwed it into the tree stump. I am thrilled. I can see this leaping deer from my side kitchen window. I am going to sprinkle black oil sunflower seeds on the stump when the weather gets colder. In the spring and summer I will put big pots of geraniums on either side. So happy.
Enjoy your Saturday evening and Sunday.

Tree and Barn in Winter

It's raining pretty hard at my house today but at least it's not snow. That kind of precipitation is such a faint memory now. I am too sleepy to look for pictures of rain on my computer so snow it is this morning. Enjoy your day.

My Pantry - Wide View and A Detail

Tara Dillard must be a mindreader. Her comment in yesterday's post requested a photo or two of my pantry as she described hers. I had been experimenting with the wide angle lens on my camera phone and it worked to get the front window (with tin cat) and the rear window overlooking my red barn both in one photo. I have a bucket bench under the rear window and the lower shelves are filled with appliances that won't fit anywhere in my kitchen cabinets. My Instant Pot, Panini Press, Steam Iron and my KitchenAid stand mixer are just a few items. I keep seldom used things there too. This room was a small screened-in porch conversion for me and I continue to love it more each day. I pay my bills at the desk and stool under the "cat" window on my laptop (not shown). Paperwork is in the files shown in right corner. More shelves below for receipts, etc.

I should have tried to neaten my stack of pans to the left of the cookbooks but didn't. The wide shelves continue to the left of the pans with more bakeware in metal and glass. The hanging "onion" light fixture with amber glass was a garage sale find and it couldn't be more perfect.

Have a great Saturday.
More Missy photos tomorrow.
Maybe some birds too.

Ceiling detail, the center is one flat board. The boards leading up to the center are on an angle. Quick photo to answer Lisa D.'s question.

This pitcher is my newest addition to the shelf. I bought it along with my curtain rods at the Firehouse Flea Market in September and never mentioned it.

Pam loves my drafting table desk area. Here is my old 2019 post showing this area of my "office" in greater detail:

Both of these links show better photos of the drafting table desk in my pantry.

Farmhouse with Attached Barn

It's hard to believe this is all new construction, isn't it?

Want to see more plus the building plans? It's called The Rebecca Leland Farmhouse -- click here.

I woke up to a dark and dreary rainy Saturday morning. It's a steady soft rain and it sounds nice hitting my copper gutters that aren't clogged with leaves quite yet. Enjoy your weekend. xo

Random Views Around My Cottage Today

A geranium in front of one of my living room's newly washed windows looking out across the street at my neighbor's red garage/barn and some lovely fall foliage.

A bloom on a Limelight hydrange in the front.

My newly painted picket fence that houses my gas and electric meters and my air conditioning unit. I love the artichoke finial on the corner post.

Big long pinecones gathered from one of my Norway Spruce Trees.

This photo is right out of my camera phone and the sky really was this exact color. The deer in silhouette looks as if he's leaping over my kitchen wing's roof. I am so enjoying looking out on him.

Enjoy your evening or your Friday morning dependending when you open my blog. xo

Best Laundry Room (Closet)

Isn't this great? I love the old office door on the barn door track so much in this setting. There are so many clever people out there, aren't there? via

Wonderful Post and Beam Summer Bedroom

I finally broke down and turned on my central air today. I thought I should since we're supposed to have a whole week of 100+ temperatures. No rain either until Friday at the earliest. Even the weeds are dying it's so dry. They come up easily too. I just tackled a spot near the house that is usually very hard to weed but tonight it was a breeze. Webster chose to stay inside in the A/C.

I'd love to be sleeping in this barn bedroom tonight with the door and windows wide open. Enjoy the fireworks. See you tomorrow, Rosemary.

Ssturday Clouds and More

I am still getting good color in fallen leaves.

These were backlit by the sun and were glowing.

The big white fluffy clouds against the dark blue sky were a thrilling sight.

Another interesting leaf with stunning colors.

A wide angle shot while standing with my red barn to my right.

This pin oak tree is still holding on on to its leaves among all the other completely bare trees. This portion of the woods is outside my bedroom wing and the white picket fence.

UPDATE: I went out on my balcony to see if the moon was out and it was. This was taken at 6:00 Saturday evening. I was never able to get the moon with my old phone or even with my Nikon. I'm pretty excited about the pink cloud too.

I'm enjoying a rather lazy start to the weekend but I never feel guilty. Some days I work really hard and the next day I rest. Don't forget to set the clocks back before you to to bed tonight.
