Year Of The Tiger + Love On Valentine's Day

In addition to being Valentine's Day today is also the first day of the Lunar New Year or Chinese New Year, The Year of The Tiger. The USPS has both events covered very nicely indeed. Happy Valentine's Day and Happy New Year too.

A wonderful antique Valentine from a past century. Luckily it was treasured, loved and preserved to inspire us today. Have a great day, Rosemary

Happy Valentine's Day -- True Antique Ones

I have a notebook full of valentines and other things one person saved back when you had to write and make your own. They are so beautiful and so sincere. This one is dated 1846.

This one is dated February 14, 1847. The beautiful pink rose is an original watercolor.

This one isn't dated and is signed My Valentine. The area around the butterfly has been cut out in a continuous loop as you will see in the next  photo.

I am holding the butterfly up in the air so you can see the surprise in the center. It will be featured in the next photo.

Two birds holding a ring and the inscription ♡"I am thine eternally"♡. Isn't this romantic?

This one has blue forget me nots with yellow centers handpainted in watercolor. Signed simply Valentine with a whole page full of a heartfelt message of love.

❤️♡HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY♡❤️

George Washington's Birthday

George Washington's Birthday is celebrated as a federal holiday on the third Monday in February. Before 1971, Washington's Birthday was one of nine federal holidays celebrated on specific dates, which—year after year—fell on different days of the week (the exception being Labor Day—the original Monday holiday).
George Washington was born in Virginia on February 11, 1731, according to the then-used Julian calendar. In 1752, however, Britain and all its colonies adopted the Gregorian calendar, which placed Washington's birth on February 22, 1732.

I don't think too many people are remembering George Washington today. This holiday has become a day to shop. The banks and post offices are closed but all the stores are having sales. This year we have two major shopping days in a row...Valentine's Day and President's Day. Happy shopping. Sorry George.

I think Abraham Lincoln's birthday has been lumped into Presidents' Day but I couldn't find a single reference to corroborate this fact. This one comes close. Am I correct?

Valentine's Day Paperweight

Isn't this decoupaged glass paperweight the best desk accessory you've seen lately? Wouldn't it be great to give or receive as a Valentine present? Two days away and counting until February 14th (Valentine's Day). Available here. Actually, I think it's the perfect gift for any occasion.

You still have time to make one. I'm pretty sure they have the paperweight blanks at Michaels. Get out your Mod Podge and decoupage away. How-To instructions here.

Valentine's Day Tree

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY EVERYONE!
This is the final version of a photo taken from my car after cropping.

Before cropping

I didn't like this view with the sign.

Next month they will hang shamrocks and in April there will be Easter Eggs. So fun and I am glad it's around the corner from my cottage.

Original 1845 Antique Folk Art Valentine . . .

Click to enlarge. I really can't make out the exact sentiment on this original Valentine glued in a memory book/lesson book from my collection. The lady's name was Pink. That name is inscribed on the tiny envelope in the man's hand. I just love the folky watercolor of the gentleman. This document was folded to fit in quite a small envelope 2" x 3-1/2". I wonder if it was presented in person as the watercolor depicts or if it was mailed?

Happy Valentine's Day.

Free Sewing Pattern for A Lamb

Aren't these lambs adorable? The only thing you have to stuff is the body. All the other parts are one layer of black felt! You could get started now and have a pile made for valentine's day gifts. You could sew or embroider  a little red heart on the body. These are supposed to be ornaments to hang and the pattern includes two sizes. They would be great for Easter too. Download free pattern here.

My winter storm overnight was snow when I went to bed. Later it turned to rain and wind. Luckily it is MLK Day and there isn't much traffic so people can stay home. My front walk looks like a layer of ice covered with slush. There is no snow on my car so I don't have to clean it off and that makes me happy. I'm staying inside until the warmest part of the day and then I will give the front walk a quick shovel. Be safe. xo

Valentine's Day is For Everyone

A heart-shaped spatterware baking dish I got at a tag sale.

A walnut shell photographed in my birdbath. I never knew there was a heart shape inside.

I still can't believe this picture I took of a wildflower with heart shaped stamens. This is real...not photoshop trickery.

A heart shaped leaf on one of my wild vines.

Happy Day of Hearts via Thresca back in 2009.
All of the photos are mine.
