Bedroom Decorating Love

Antiquarian prints hanging unframed on the walls, recessed bookcases full of leather bindings, the bench with linen cushion at the foot of the bed, the bed hangings, the upholstered headboard, the lamps. I love it all. Absolute perfection.

Coco Chanel: A Life On Camera

Coco Chanel: A life on camera
Cocomania is nothing new as you will soon learn. The 24-picture slideshow clearly illustrates that this is not the first time we have turned the spotlight on the fascinating and pioneering fashion designer Coco Chanel.

Coco Chanel | Fashion Advice

Coco Chanel practicing her own style advice circa 1926.
"Always wear your hat at a jaunty angle."

I always look forward to seeing the gowns at The Oscars. Maybe we'll see some vintage Chanel tonight. Hope so.

Nantucket Seaside Retreat

On Nantucket, Massachusetts, a couple commissioned Botticelli and Pohl Architects + interior designer Elissa Cullman to create their seaside retreat. That's some staircase down to the sea, isn't it?

Walk or Slide?

Curved staircase with slide. This would be so much fun. Which would you take? I guess you'd walk up and slide down. I'm so glad there are people who want such things and find the people to build them, aren't you?

Fabulous Entrance

Wow. Just look at the entrance to this place. Love the big shaped bushes and benches lining the drive too. Wish I could see more of the house. Looks as if there's a party going on with the tents outside. How many lifetimes would it take for new plantings to get this tall?

WATCH: Epic Forest Time Lapse Shot

This is so interesting. When you get a spare 10 minutes you will really enjoy seeing the work and effort that went into film footage that took 2 years to complete and lasts for only one minute. For a glimpse at just how much effort goes into creating the gorgeous shots captured by the BBC and Discovery Channel, have a look at this exhausting behind-the-scenes footage of a scene from the new series LIFE.

WATCH: Discovery’s Epic Forest Time Lapse Shot Two Years In The Making

I never knew that natural history photographers had to be carpenters and engineers too. We just sit on our couches and watch these programs as if they are created by magic. Now you will be able to understand what goes on behind the scenes. I can't wait to see this series. If you are in a hurry you can use the slider to move the film forward and watch the last minute or so. It is like seeing spring happen before your very eyes. Enjoy

Crispy Bacon, Yum

Doesn't this bacon look yummy? I can't remember the last time I cooked it. Probably last summer when tomatoes were in season BLTs were on the menu. I have a showing of my real estate listing this morning and just might stop at Wightman's Farms the local farm stand and get some of their thick bacon on my way home. It's wonderful. Hope I don't forget...since I have to drive by twice.

Happy weekend. The weather here is going to be nice and in the 50s. Hooray. Maybe all of the snow will melt.

Candle With An Old Books Scent

A friend gave me one of these candles this week for my Unbirthday (there was no other occasion). She always knows what I might like and she's always right. This one is called Ex Libris with the scent of Old Books; antiquated leather-bound volumes of handmade papers and parchment permeate and seduce the senses. The packaging is wonderful...too pretty to open. From Modern Alchemy. Thanks, Jill. I love it.

Canning Jar Sewing Kit

This is such a cute idea. I never thought about making a sewing kit out of a canning jar, did you? I found this image over at My Island Wedding. All you would have to do is pad the jar seal and top it with a decorative fabric, apply a bead of hot glue to the inside edge of the outer ring, snap it back together and there you are. These would be great to carry around with you if you are working on one special project. Sewing on buttons? Put them all in the jar along with your smallest sewing scissors, needle and thread, beeswax (I always wax my thread before sewing on buttons) and any other small items you might need. The possibilities are endless. Nice inexpensive idea for gifts too.

Silhouette | Man Reading A Book

"Take off thy hat, put down thy sword, and read thy book."

Scanned from one of my antiquarian books published in Germany in 1911. A "whole figure" silhouette relating to Goethe, his life and times.
