Cozy Foxes

I'll be tucking in early tonight too. Isn't this a fabulous photo of two sleeping foxes? They look so peaceful. I watched the most wonderful movie last night -- The Book Thief. If you haven't seen it, you are in for a treat. It will blow you away. Stay warm. xo

Beautiful Feathers on A Guinea Hen

They look like Herringbone Tweed, don't they? Mother Nature really is the best designer. The sitter appears to be in a fowl mood. The eyes say, "Don't mess with me." I've always loved these birds. via

So Many Acorns This Year

I have bumper crops of acorns and chestnuts this year. The squirrels and chipmunks are overjoyed. Please tell me this is not a prediction for another winter like last year. I certainly hope not. via

Mesmerizing Stream

This animated gif is absolutely hypnotic. I can't stop looking, can you? See you later. xo

A Beautiful Forest Floor

This is gorgeous. I love the ground cover. Mother Nature isn't so neat in my neck of the woods. One of my neighbors saw a bear on our street a couple of weeks ago and I found evidence that he was on my property too. Bear Poo! Exciting and scary. I hope I never see the bear up close. I'm happy all of my wild raspberries are gone. I'm sure he was just passing through looking for something to eat. via

Stately Fern

I took this photo of a lone fern standing against leaves of a darker green a couple of days ago. I loved the way it stood out with its lighter shade of green. Ferns are my among my favorite wild plants. I have a busy day this morning with another inspection and a carpenter bee treatment at the early blue house. See you later. xo

Multiflora is Blooming

It's hard to be mad at this thorny wild rose that is slowly taking over my woods when it blooms. The flowers are lovely and the scent is heavenly. I especially like the tiny pink rose buds. Every since Super Storm Sandy, when so many trees came down and allowed more sunlight into the woodlands, these bushes are becoming Science Fiction Movie Material. Nothing can penetrate them! And I'm too tired to even try. :-)
Have a great weekend. xo

The Woods are Green Again

The amazing skunk cabbage is getting huge and is on its way to covering the entire floor of the wetlands in my woods. I love it. It's almost time for me to jump in bed to watch TV. Have a great evening. xo

Bird's Nest in a Thorn Bush

I would say the mother bird picked a good place to build this nest last year in the middle of a wild rose bush with giant thorns. I cleaned out all the debris in hopes she will come back to reclaim it soon. I am always fascinated with the beautiful weaving our fine feathered friends are able to do with no hands. Can you see the tiny bit of greening in the multiflora stems? Spring is on the way.

Amazing Sky this Morning at My Cottage

Wow. This sky was simply amazing this morning. It didn't last long with the sun's rays but it was beautiful for a minute or so.

My New Jersey Woods

It's going to be 60° today so the melting will continue.

I have an office meeting this morning. I dare not hope for another open house tour like the stone house last week. You ca be sure I'll take you along if there is anything interesting.

This is the morning sky I looked out upon while I was waiting for my coffee to finish brewing.

Private Swimming Pond

This frozen private swimming, fishing, boating pond goes with the antique stone house I blogged about earlier this week. It's much larger than this end with a diving dock and so much better than a pool in my opinion.
How are you holding up after losing an hour of sleep last night? My animals did nothing but sleep all day and I never did get a nap. I'm going to have a cup of tea to help keep me awake for all the TV shows I hope to watch tonight. There's nothing on PBS but there's a new The Good Wife, one of my favorite shows. Enjoy your evening.

Tabitha in Watercolor + Frozen Stream

Your wish is my command. Here is Tabitha's requested watercolor portrait painted with the Waterlogue App on my iPhone.

Webster and I went for a walk in the woods at sunset last night. It is so cold that all of our deep snow can finally be walked upon without caving in. It felt good to be able to stretch my legs outside and look for something to photograph. It looks lovely outside this morning as we wait for our next winter storm. All of my gutters have melted except for a small portion of the one over my front door. I predict that Mother Nature will wait until it has melted completely before she starts up again. Enjoy your Saturday! xo

Tawny Frogmouth: Watch baby bird grow

Watch this little bird grow at the St. Louis Zoo.

Click here to see more still photos from the moment she hatched through one month of growth. The video is on the website too in case you can't see the one above. She looks like an owl but isn't. Read more about this species from the Australian mainland, Tasmania and southern New Guinea here.

Lovely Woodland Fabrics

I love this fabric with original designs from nature. See more examples in Golly Bard's photostream on Flickr. I would love to have some draperies using any and all of these designs, wouldn't you?

A Great Place to Sit and Enjoy Fall

I have never turned on my heat in September but I was tempted to break my rule this morning. Wouldn't this be a great place to sit and enjoy watching the fall colors come and go? via
