My Kitchen This Morning

I took this photo of my kitchen standing in the doorway next to my attic door and this viewpoint shows my ceiling beams and lighting fixture as well as the shiplap boards. This was 2 rooms (a dining room and small galley kitchen) when I purchased my cottage in 2001. The attic space above was too low to stand up so I decided to incorporate it into my country kitchen. These beams are old floorboards from that space and I have never regretted this decision. The cabinet top over my stove in the corner was the old ceiling height and if I had not vaulted the ceiling I wouldn't have been able to stand my tall case clock anywhere. This was a happy accident. August is half over and I still have so much to do. Onward and upward! xo

Jane Grossman -- Jane, I started my blog in 2008 so you have been with me for a long time. Thanks for admiring my kitchen. I love it too.

Gail, northern California -- Gail, I agonized over getting my kitchen just right. My contractor wanted me to put in an island with bar stools but I wouldn't have been able to use my farm table so I stood firm and in the end I was right!!! Thanks for your confirmation of my decision.

The kitchen truly is the heart of the home in many ways and the person who spends the majority of the time in there should definitely design it and have it just the way wanted. Even if that means firmly standing your ground! I, too, spent a lot of time designing my kitchen (and also the kitchen of a restaurant we owned and ran years back) and know it took A LOT of thought to make it just right. I always enjoy so very much seeing pictures of your gorgeous home!

A wonderful cozy and warm kitchen you have. Don’t you just love
cooking in this space?
Can’t tell but I would think your rugs are old or vintage too?
Thank you for sharing regularly.... it’s a bonus for us followers🥰

That vault ceiing really opens up the room. Good choice.

Your kitchen is just wonderful, as is all of your charming home. I'm a fan of painted woodwork, as well as cupboards...& you have lots of that. I've heard it said that the color red increases the appetite.

...all is grace!

Mama Pea -- I didn't know you and your husband owned and ran a restaurant! You are just full of surprises. You garden on a grand scale and have all the homesteading talents that you and hubs seem to embrace with gusto. I am pleased with my kitchen and I'm sure you are too with yours. I put a lot of though into mine with cardboard cutouts of my farm table and I love the way it becomes an island when I'm baking. I am loving having it back again now that all the clutter is gone thanks to my whirlwind weekend of cleaning & organizing.

Linda A. -- All of my rugs are old. Yes, I am happy cooking in my kitchen and so glad you are liking my tours.

Linda Sand -- I love my vaulted ceiling too, especially since the attic crawl space would have been wasted since it was too low to be of any use. The other parts of my attic over my living room & bedroom are full height. I can't imagine my kitchen any other way.

Anita ~ the cabin on the creek -- Anita, Now I know why I'm always hungry😂 I had the old red custom mixed to match my farm table's base. It has a drawer and I took it to the paint store. I like painted cabinets too.

Rosemary, I did not realize your kitchen was so beautiful. Your wood open beam ceiling is just gorgeous. This is the first time I have seen it.

tammy j -- Tam, Thank you for your kind words. The Windsor chairs were another Charity Shop find, just the 4 hoopbacks. I already had the two chairs at either end. xo, Rosemary
