Sadly, the porch season is quickly coming to a close so sit outside while you can. More photos of Stillwater Place here.

Busy Weekend
I propped my feet up for about 5 seconds all weekend. The past two days have been spent outside clipping all the boxwood, spraying the driveway for weeds, cleaning the garage, and all sorts of outdoor activities involving home maintenance. The weather was nice and it felt good to work. I have had a really lame data plan with my iphone ever since I got it almost 2 years ago. I had only 200 MB of data and who knows how much that is? Not me. I am usually on wifi and that doesn't count. I upgraded to 3GB for only $15.00 more per month last week at the AT&T store at the mall. I listened to podcasts while doing all of my chores and it was so much fun. I enjoyed "Here's the Thing with Alec Baldwin" on NPR. He interviews some of the most interesting people and I love his voice, so I was thoroughly entertained. You can listen on your computer too. The most recent one is with Danny Bennett, Tony Bennett's son. He's the real reason his father has been able to stay so active in the music business and remain so very busy even though he's 88 years old. It is a wonderful family story too. I loved it. I'm looking forward to the final episode of SILK on PBS tonight on Masterpiece Mystery. See you tomorrow. Good night.

The Future
Show this to a young person. The key word is "few". Somebody's got to do it, right? I've never been afraid of getting my hands dirty and I've always admired people who work with their hands. via

Little Known Facts
I found this on my computer as a saved photo and I have no idea of the source. I will add a link when I find out where it came from. It's interesting, isn't it? UPDATE: I found the design source.
The Birth of a Limited Edition Book
A short vignette of a book being created using traditional printing methods.

This is fascinating. There is so much hand work involved in the making of a book.
My First iPhone Photo
I took this photo in the parking lot of the mall when leaving the Apple Store almost two years ago in October 2011. I still love my 4S but am anxious for the release of the 5S any day now so I can learn about the new features. I will be eligible for an upgrade if it's awesome. I've come a long way since purchasing my first "smart" phone and can't imagine not having one. I am honestly still learning new things about the one I have.

Broadchurch tonight, Episode 5
Can't wait. Only a little over an hour and I'll be glued to my tv set. Enjoy.
Click here if you can't see the YouTube preview of episode 5 above. If you can't watch, don't forget to set your DVR if you can't get it "on demand".
Hello from Webster
Just popping in to show you my handsome posterized portrait and to say hello to all of my fans.
Fall is in The Air
Fall is definitely in the air at my house. I have to give some serious thought to cutting the grass really short so the leaves can blow away in the wind. Maybe I'll do the front today after the heavy morning dew burns off. See you later. image source

Door and Entrance Hall Love
I love the diamond window panes on this front door and the entrance hall, with its nautical hooks, too. via
A few Cottage photos
Here's a close view of the back of my cottage showing the shingles. It looks so different from the front because I get the harsh morning sun back there. Most of my original semi-transparent Cabot stain has washed off too. It looks like a haunted house, doesn't it? The painter dropped off my new paint over the weekend. Of course, it's raining today for Labor Day. Hope you have a better forecast wherever you are. I want the rainy season to be over before my exterior decorating begins. See you later.

The Mushroom and The Shoe
Nothing earth shattering to report from the cottage this morning. Just a photo of my shoe and a giant mushroom. It's overcast and will stay that way until Wednesday with showers each day. I want all of the rainy weather to come and be gone by the time my painting job starts in two weeks. The painter is placing the order for paint and primer today. I'm still feeling good about my choices of the products and the contractor. Have a nice weekend and celebration of the end of summer. I always feel that summer drags on and on until Labor Day and then in a flash the rest of the year flies by in an instant.

Myrna Loy Chooses Paint Colors for Dream House
One of my thoughtful blog readers sent me this clip from Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House. It has always been my favorite scene from that delightful movie and I can really appreciate it after my recent "adventures in paint and stain". Enjoy.

Have a great long Labor Day weekend.
Crazy, Determined Cat
I have no idea what's inside this tube, but it must be delicious. It looks exactly like the nozzle on my shop vac. Maybe this is a Repair Cat trying to unclog a stopped up airway. Anyway, it made me laugh. WEEKEND UPDATE: This really is a vacuum cleaner tube -- watch the video here with sound. Found by a reader, thanks!
French Bulldog Pup
Here's a puppy for this morning's cuteness to brighten your whole day. He's adorable, isn't he? I saw my friend Piggy, the little white Frenchie earlier this week and he was glad to see me. Today is called the gateway to the Labor Day weekend. Get an early start if you will be driving and be safe. via
