15th Century German Dog House

The ultimate medieval doghouse, complete with side chapel. Four Dogs before a Doghouse in a book of fables, German, late 1400s.

English Country Kitchen with Aga + Dog

I love the dog on his ratty pillow, the old AGA cooker, the overhead laundry drying rack, and the pullout hand towel that's big enough to dry off the dog. This is real life personified, isn't it. Brent Darby Interior Photography via

An Elegant White Kitchen

A Decorative Alphabet Based on Birds

Anna Söderberg is a graphic designer educated at prestigous Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm, Sweden. This alphabet poster called “Ornis” was part of Anna’s graduation project. Inspired by Middle Ages typography with its decorative initials that often filled up an entire page, she developed Ornis – a decorative alphabet based on birds and feathers.

The Queen Enjoys a Good Laugh

The Queen laughing as she passes her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, in uniform. He's smiling too.
So cute. I love them both! via

No More Clothes Line :(

We have been having some amazingly mild days recently that would have been perfect for hanging out laundry. That is, if I still had a clothesline. The three trees on the right were taken down after Hurricane Sandy because they were diseased and dangerous. The one one the left is still there. I can't wait to have a post put in so I can hang my clothes outside again. I really miss doing this. The dryer just doesn't leave that air and sunshine smell I know and love. This is an older photo. I think I will like not having those trees. They were not attractive at all and they blocked my view to the way back. I love my new 'big sky' view. I can see more stars at night too. Webster says hello.

Lady Mary's Wedding on Downton Abbey

Sunday night was wonderful, wasn't it? The two-hour premier of Downton Abbey, Season 3 did not disappoint. Did you watch? If you missed it you can watch online here. I loved all of the white buntings decorating the route to the wedding of Lady Mary Crawley to Matthew Crawley.

Crescent Moon at Sunrise this Morning

I got up a little before 7:00 this morning and was greeted by both the sun and the moon. I quickly grabbed my camera and took this photo so you could see the beautiful sky too.

Wonderful Wood Shed

I love this timber-framed wood shed next to the brick home. What a nice wall of stacked wood! I hope these people have a fire every night.

Another view of this historic house. Photo taken in 1939. via I wonder if this beauty is still standing? I hope it has been restored.

Tabitha's New Favorite Place

I must agree, she looks very cozy all snuggled in between the pillows. She was in a very deep sleep on my antique rope bed this morning after breakfast and didn't move an inch when I sneaked up on her with my iPhone. She's the picture of contment, isn't she?

Quote from The Breakfast Club

I stopped trying to impress people decades ago. I am getting ready for breakfast and thought this quote was a good one. via

Clothespins and Pinecones

Just playing around with overlays on PicMonkey having fun. After the hurricane I had to cut down the other tree holding up my clothes line. When spring comes I will put in a post because I miss it very much.

Antique Acquisition

I attended the last day of a house contents sale recently when the pickings were slim. I walked around several times and found a few treasures and then I spotted this shelf. It was filled with junk for sale and when I asked the price, nobody knew. The boss lady conducting the sale said it was a 'prop' but if I wanted it she would sell it for $8.00. Needless to say, I was thrilled. Just remember, it always pays to ask!
