Fritillaria, Checkered Flowering Bulbs

via
The graphic designs on this flowering bulb continues to fascinate me. The name is derived from the Latin term for a dice-box (fritillus) and probably refers to the checkered pattern of the flowers of many species. Plants of the genus are known in English as fritillaries. Some North American species are called mission bells. Read more.

Wall to Wall Books and Antiques

Yes. Isn't this the perfect room? via I've been thinking of having another wall of shelves built in my guest room. This one would be perfect! We got about 6 inches of snow overnight and it is quite lovely. The animals have been out and are both in after-breakfast food comas and the house is snug and warm. Now that my furnace has been fixed, I realize that I was having a problem for quite some time. I can remember thinking for a long time that my house was cold. The furnace wasn't clicking on when the temperature dropped. It finally broke totally and now that it is working properly the cottage is back to being its old cozy self. I can't stop looking up at this library and have decided to work on my books today and maybe some taxes. Be safe and warm this weekendwe. xo

Such A Lovely Library and Print Room

This is fabulous. Teleport me there now! I think I will need a more comfortable chair, please, if it's not too much trouble. via

Watch the Butterflies

Don't you love this animated gif made from an antiquarian natural history print? The butterflies are all moving, but at different times. This is so clever. via

Wall of Architectural Prints

I like this wall of architectural prints in thin black frames. via It's been snowing lightly since noon and I think we've gotten about 3 inches or so. I'm going to wait until tomorrow to shovel after it stops. Stay warm and cozy and enjoy your Saturday night.

Santa Claus by Thomas Nast 1881

Merry Old Santa Claus
Harper's Weekly January 1, 1881
I had one of the originals and this is my photo of the lithograph which was sold long ago. The historic Thomas Nast House is in nearby Morristown, NJ. I accomplished just about everything I set out to do today and delivered lots of local packages wrapped in brown paper and tied up with string. Really! I hope Santa is good to everyone. Merry Christmas.

I took this photo of the Nast House from my car with my iPhone in the fall.

A Gentleman's Bathroom

I can't tell whether or not it's a full bath. With all those big towels heating up on the towel bars, I think it probably is. The masculine artwork is very nice and I really like the antique table used for the sink surround. Very nice indeed.

It's Easy Being Green

What a lovely small dining room! The shades of moss and sage green are very pleasing and soothing, aren't they? via

Antique Bird Prints

I love this mixed media image I scanned from an old copy of Town and Country magazine. I have always admired these antiquarian prints from The Natural History of Birds, by Eleazar Albin, published between 1731 and 1738. These large scale hand-colored antique bird prints are favored by decoupage artist John Derian. When reproduced and laser printed they make wonderful trays

Dogs on Chairs and Birds on the Wall

I scanned this image from a magazine years ago because I have these first edition 1878 Studer bird prints I used to sell on eBay and I love the way they look on a wall. I uploaded all of the antique prints to a Picase web album HERE. You can also view the link as a slideshow. Let me know if you have any interest and maybe we can make a deal.
