New House Filled with Antiques

I always say I wouldn't change a thing and this time I really mean it. The architect must have worked closely with the homeowners to design the rooms around the furnishings.

PATIO DINING AT ITS BEST

Delightful cottage, delightful patio, delightful furniture. This photo checks all the boxes for outside dining over the Labor Day weekend or anytime. Keep it small for enjoyment by all. via

Extraordinary Curb Appeal

This is absolute perfection. I especially love the diamond walkway leading up to this beautiful home. via A larger view of this home is on Melissa Penfold's Instagram.

Blue Bermuda Shutters

via
While we are on the subject of Bermuda shutters, I thought you might like to see another example. This one is wonderful. It must have been a challenge to get the paint color to match the pool water exactly! Stay cool. xo

Pool House with Bermuda Shutters

via
I adore this bungalow with a delightful pool house. The full-window Bermuda shutters are perfect here and they provide shade, airflow, and privacy. The clerestory windows are another architectural detail that make this compound so special. The understated mature landscaping is wonderful and so is the swimming pool. I love this little gem!

Built to Last

I adore the carved stonework around the recessed door and the stone window surround. There is almost nothing requiring paint and upkeep and nothing to attract insect infestation. This is my idea of a forever house where you can just get on with living and enjoying rather than maintaining. Sadly, this thinking has gone out the window unless the end user has full control of the construction process and access to old world craftsmen who are not in a rush. The flowers are the icing on the cake. via

Cottage Detail: Blue Stair Treads

This cottage hallway and curved stairs with blue painted treads is simply wonderful. I love the perfect proportions of everything in this photograph, especially the fine woodwork. Perfection! via

Drayton Hall Double Staircase Charleston SC

 So untouched and so beautiful.
Circa 1738 plantation.

Isn't this double staircase absolutely stunning? It really is an 18th century architectural masterpiece. Photos found on Google Images.

Simple Narrow Entrance Hall

The view from the front porch looks gorgeous. I love this sisal/jute rug in a chevron pattern bound with a gray border. I have always loved old house with transom windows over the doors. They must be so nice at night when the door is closed and the transom is open to let in fresh air. via
It has been too hot here for me to open my windows at night. It is 90° at 6:30pm and my house is nice and cool as I have been running my central air. I don't use it that often but when it's really hot, I am glad I have it, especially if I am working in the attic. See you tomorrow. xo

Door Hardware: Hidden Beauty

This decorative brass latch plate is seldom seen when the door is closed but the beauty remains. via

Christmas Decorations with Snow

This setting is wonderful. I love the door and the Christmas wreath. I don't understand the little garage for boots though. If you took them off before entering the house, what would you have on your feet? There is still a lot of snow before reaching the front door. via

Enchanting Home

Use your imagination to envision Halloween decorations here. I want to see this lovely shingled home when the leaves are off the tree hiding the upper stories. That's what I love about fall and winter with bare trees. It really is the perfect time to house hunt so you can really see what you're buying. See you later. xo via

This charming Greek Revival cottage is located in Warren County, North Carolina. Somehow these cottages keep finding me so I can share them with you!

Historic Farmhouse

A Southern California couple bought a 1700s stone farmhouse in the Hudson Valley in upstate New York and have slowly been restoring the interiors ever since. Filling the space with vintage and antique finds sourced locally, there are plenty of nods to the history of the area.

The structure is wonderful. The link to the tour is no longer available.

Herringbone Walkway

I really love this walkway with the pavers laid in a herringbone pattern. There is a lot of period detailing on this shingle style home. I love the craftsmanship on the archway. Image found on Tumblr.
