Deer in my Back Yard

A little excitement at 4:45 this afternoon. These deer stayed for quite a while because they weren't bothered. This live photo (set on bounce) had the most action. I took it from one of my attic windows where the screens are still out from having the house painted in August. I couldn't get any good shots from my living room because the balcony railing was in the way. I hope they will be frequent visitors.

Thank you for posting this little film, Rosemary. How fortunate you are to have wildlife in your garden. I do hope they become frequent visitors.

Tasha T -- I have preserved parkland beside me and behind me. This is the first time this season I have seen two handsome bucks with nice antlers. I'm sure they will be back -- I just hope I'm looking out a window when they do. xo, Rosemary

Once when I was taking care of Lola, deer came up in the front yard of the house next door. The closer you are to them one can see how really huge they are. It helps if you can view them from indoors as otherwise they are quite skittish. Your windows are serving a good purpose.

Thrilling moment.

Beautiful.

Something other-worldly when chancing upon Nature in action.

Rosemary,
This is wonderful. How fun to have property where nature can visit and stay awhile. The one stag looks to be keeping watch for the other two.
Thanks for sharing.

Seeing such beautiful creatures never gets old. I know they can cause some damage to trees and plants, but maybe it's worth it, just to catch a glimpse of them once in awhile! Thank you, Rosemary!

JudyMac-- Judy, Yes they are huge and very skittish. That's why I dared not open the door to my balcony and scare them off. They are always on high alert for humans because of the hunters. I still enjoy seeing them and have learned to plant things they don't like. xo, Rosemary

Mama Pea -- I am glad you like the photo of my healthy bucks with the beautiful white antlers. I hope I can get more in the near future. xo, Rosemary

Tara Dillard -- Tara, It is always a treat to have a surprise sighting of Mother Nature's creatures having private moments completely undisturbed. xo, Rosemary

Karen B. -- You are right. The largest one seems to be the lookout while the other two graze. I'm very lucky to have such majestic visitors. xo, Rosemary

Pam -- I'm glad you enjoyed this scene from Mother Nature I was lucky enough to capture. They do a lot of tree damage rubbing their antlers to get the velvety coating off. And they browse and eat beautiful garden plantings. A lot of the properties around me have deer fencing but I just try to plant deer proof things. I enjoy having them, especially if my camera is close by. xo, Rosemary

Thank you for sharing this, Rosemary. I absolutely love deer. I love all wildlife and animals, but they are such beautiful creatures. I used to get a lot of them in my back yard. They would bring their babies and rest on the shady oak covered hillside just beyond my back yard. They happily ate everything on the salad bar! Then I fenced off my yard because they ate all of my roses, down to the stump. They even ate the thorns! So now I have roses, but no deer and no fawns. I have to say that I "deerly" miss them. (Pun intended.) I've contemplated providing a smorgasbord for them in my front yard, along with a water feature so they can drink, but my house needs so much attention, I have not gotten there yet! I'm blessed, like you, to live among lots of wildlife.

Lisa D. -- It's nice to hear you too are blessed to live among lots of wildlife. Your shady oak hillside behind your back yard sounds delightful. Yes, those deer love roses. You really did need that fence in order to be able to continue growing them after they were devoured. Maybe one day you will have time for a front feature for them. Taking care of one's house is a full time job, isn't it? I caught up on many of the things I had been neglecting over the summer. I hope I can keep it up. Wishing you the best with your projects. xo, Rosemary

Oooh, they are beautiful. I sometimes see a dozen deer in my daughter's back yard, but they are always does with fawns of various ages, never any bucks with racks like those handsome fellows...

Gretchen Joanna -- I was excited to see the two handsome bucks with the big racks too. I hope your daughter gets one or two in her back yard soon. xo, Rosemary
