For Emma Bridgewater and her husband Matthew Rice, a shared desire to preserve skills and traditions has influenced their booming ceramics business, as well as the restoration of their farmhouse and barn in Oxfordshire. I thoroughly enjoyed the article in House & Garden UK magazine with more photos for you to enjoy too. xo

UPDATE: I found a wonderful youtube video featuring Matthew Rice, Emma's husband, and his artwork. View it HERE and enjoy. He is a great talent in his own right. xo

What an incredible life these two have created! I have always admired her pottery, but knew very little about her. So interesting.

Pam -- I have always loved her pottery too and now I love her life choices and family life as well. Wouldn't you like to go to her factory and visit the shop where she sells seconds? It's fascinating to learn what shopping for a mug and not being to find one you like can lead to, isn't it? xo, Rosemary

I love the Bridgewater pottery, but only once have I seen a piece of Bridgewater and I grabbed it. It is an “I Love My Car” mug featuring the little Mini-Cooper. Bridgewater doesn’t seem to turn up at the estate sales and such in my neck of the woods, or maybe I’m not familiar enough with her pieces to be able to recognize them. I don’t drink much coffee now, but I always drink from the little Mini-Cooper. Would love to take a trial spin in one of the little Mini-Coopers sometime.

JudyMac -- It's not your neck of the woods but everywhere. I have never seen ONE PIECE of Emma Bridgewater pottery in all my years of searching. I think it's because people never give them up. I'm glad you found your mug and have labeled it your favorite. I have always liked the look of Mini-Cooper automobiles. One of my neighbors had one but gave it up for some reason. Hope you get to ride in one some day. xo, Rosemary

Rosemary, I watched the Matthew Rice YT video. Isn't it wonderful that two incredibly gifted, creative people found each other! (BTW, I could listen to him speak all day.) Thanks for the link.

Pam -- I enjoyed his video too. Isn't it nice that Matthew Rice and Emma Bridgewater found each other and have been happily married for 40 years. They are both so talented and work so well as a team in work and family life. xo, Rosemary

Pam -- I found a lecture by Matthew Rice about Stoke on Trent called Can Stoke Make You Happy? I just started watching it and I think you will like it too. It's 90 minutes long.

I just finished watching the YouTube video by Matthew Rice. It really is interesting to listen to someone who is passionate about preserving history. When he talked about the significance of people being able to actually see an old birthplace, workplace, or homeplace it resonated with me. Thanks for the link!
