Hello, September

Hello, September and hello all. Sorry I haven't been around for a while. My washing machine broke and cannot be fixed and I have had a really hard time finding a replacement. The part is no longer available (of course) and the repair man found one on eBay but it was $600. YIKES. I looked and looked and looked and absolutely could not find a front loader that would fit in the tight space in my laundry room. I settled on a Maytag front loader that will fit but it might not exactly line up with my dryer because I completely forgot about the shallow cabinets above. I might have to pull it out farther than the dryer in order to get the top open. I think it will be fine, fingers crossed. It is being delivered on Thursday. I am not at all excited about getting a new one and having to learn how to use it. Nothing is simple these days, right? Things don't last the way they used to and the manufacturers have planned obsolescence built in. I have gotten numerous tips by watching demonstrations on YouTube. Some of the comments are hilarious. My old one was a high efficiency front loader and I could see that it used very little water. My new one is HE too and all the comments were about the lack of water in the drum. It doesn't have the old-fashioned agitator that sticks way up either. My clothes are never very dirty except when I am down on my hands and knees in the garden. I have old work clothes so I don't care if they don't look brand new when they come out of the washer. Sorry to sound out of sorts. I am really fine and just wanted you let you in on what's going on in my life.
Enjoy the long Labor Day weekend. I am loving the cooler weather after a long hot spell. I am not ready to kiss summer goodbye, are you? I love fall except for the leaves which I never get raked until spring rolls around. I have learned the birds like it this way because they can find winter food underneath the leaf cover. I don't feed them so this is the least I can do for my feathered friends. xo

Ii love that you take care of the birds like that. We had to buy a new washer two years ago and got a very sturdy, made in America(!) SpeedQueen. No bells and whistles but it just works perfectly. I'm hoping it's the last one I have to buy!

I believe I have the same Maytag as you bought. I have to pull mine out in order to clear the cabinets above, too, but I've never found it to be a problem. Mine gets my dirtiest clothes clean if I spot treat the stains. Not having an agitator means that you have to group the clothes around in a circle leaving the center open. I like that because I have less wear and tear on my clothes than I had with my older machine with an agitator. It will be fine. I actually love mine now, but I had reservations about it when I got it, just as you do now, I suppose.

My husband must have repaired ours at least 15 times, finally gave up the ghost and we bought a new stackable set. I am glad to know you weren’t ill though!

Mary Anne Komar -- Your husband could not have fixed my machine. It was some sort of electronic chip that made the tub go around. Thank you for your concern about my health. I am well and still able to take care of all of my house problems. I even had my gutters cleaned this week, just in time for the Labor Day rain. Your husband sounds like a treasure. My mother and I took care of everything when I was growing up since my father was not handy. I am still hearing my mother's voice when I have a problem. She always worked things out in her head before starting a task and I do the same thing. Happy Labor Day.

Annelancaster64@gmail.com -- Anne, I have had a front loader since 1973 and never owned a top loader. My mother always had a top loader and I can remember it often got out of balance and danced around the enclosed back porch floor. I hope I don't have this problem with my new machine. Thanks for your reassuring words of advice. I am prepared to love my new washer and will have a positive mindset as I learn how to operate it. Happy Labor Day!

stacey -- I am hoping this washer is my last one too. My Maytag is made in America too and that pleases me so much. I couldn't find a Speed Queen that would fit in my tight space. That was the only brand my repair man mentioned. He did tell me that top loaders were the hardest to fix. I will be very careful with my new machine and hope I made the right choice.
I don't think I have ever successfully raked all of my leaves in the fall and it wasn't until recently that I learned my laziness was actually a good thing for the birds. Happy Labor Day.
