Deer Sighting

Nothing exciting, just a deer walking by in my woods. She looks fat and healthy, doesn't she? This doe was walking with a group but they were too far apart from each other to get them all together.

Maybe she's with child - or should I say, with deer.

We enjoy watching deer. Several years ago, it wasn't unusual to have a dozen deer near our pond, but now we only see a few at a time. Bobcats are becoming more common in our area, and I'm sure they eat the younger deer. In fact, my sister-in-law was confronted by a bobcat while she was jogging about a mile from our place. She just stared at it (and prayed) and it finally turned around and ran back into the woods. Never a dull moment for those of us who live in the country!

Is it terrible that all I think of when I see deer are ticks? I have several friends who have Lyme disease, its so debilitating. I guess I need to try and not be so prejudice against deer.

Lisa -- I hadn't thought about that possible fact. Maybe I'll see her fawn in the spring.

Pam -- Hunters and cars are the only enemies of the many deer in my area. There are more white-tailed deer now than when the Pilgrims landed. They are real pests if you try to have a garden. And they carry the deer ticks that cause Lyme disease too. I just plant what they don't like. I can't control them because I have parkland beside my cottage and behind it too so they have free reign to my property.

The Queen Vee -- I hear you. I think of deer ticks too and have had Lyme Disease 4 times. Luckily I know the symptoms and get medical attention right away to nip it in the bud. There are definitely too many deer in my area but I'm stuck with mine.
