After taking these photos of my 14 year old air conditioning unit, I put a cover on it for the winter. As you all know, I don't use it daily in the summer, just on very hot days. But I'm glad I have it on those days. I love to sleep with my windows open whenever possible.
Here's the generator after some pruning and raking a couple of days ago. The black pipe above the gray piping is the new gas line.
More beautiful piping.
Now it looks like rain and I can take a breather before the four days of bright sunshine that start tomorrow. Sorry to have bored you with home maintenance photos but that's been my life lately. I went to an open house this morning but it wasn't worthy of any photos to show you. I see an afternoon movie in my future. xo

How wonderful, you don't have to worry now.
I painted all my power boxes and metal vents mounted on the house this fall. Now they just blend in with the brick.
Catherine -- Don't give me any ideas. i don't have any neighbors on that side of my cottage so nobody sees these boxes but me. I drove by this morning by entering my horseshoe drive from that side and I didn't even see the generator because of the tall spruce tree. But I admire your ingenuity painting yours to blend with your brick. Baby steps for me trying to play catchup after ignoring that area of my house for several years, maybe even since the house was painted 4 years ago. I don't mind hard outside work once I get started. Getting started is the hard part. Smile.

It looks great! We rarely lose power so we would not need one, but I am sure it would be handy in Jersey due to hurricanes. I have the same A/C unit you have! Only I have to say, in the summers here it runs all the time. Have a great week! Kit
In the past few years, I've noticed more generators at nearby farms. One of the reasons might be that there's a local business selling and servicing them. Rosemary, I'm glad you have found a reliable company to serve your needs. It gives peace of mind!
Pam -- Maybe the farms have well water. I have a well and there's no flushing or running water without electricity to pump it. Every time really bad weather was predicted, I ran a bathtub full of water for flushing. And pitchers of water for drinking and making coffee on my gas stove. I would have been a grumpy pioneer.
Farms have the animals to think of and they need water too.

Kit -- My generator will be fully functioning after next week's test and electrical inspection. I haven't lost power that much since Superstorm Sandy 5 years ago when my mother and I had no power for 12 days. Nothing since then more than 4 hours at a clip thanks to all the tree trimming done by the town. But a 15 minute loss of power makes me hyperventilate. Now that I have a generator, I'll probably never have another power loss, but the peace of mind will be priceless. Plus it's a capital improvement that will increase the value of my cottage. xo, Rosemary
A wise decision to have a reliable generator at your beck and call! Even better to have excellent installers and service people! We had a Kohler generator installed when we built our most recent house and have found it to be invaluable. We live on a dirt road in rural Vermont and our power lines run through our woods and meadows. A stiff wind will often cause a tree to fall on the wires!
I'm glad you have made this purchase as your situation during Sandy was very frightening, difficult and stressful. I would hate for you to ever go through that again. Great that you have a reliable service provider too. Looks like your are ready for what may come if needed.
