Tulips And Two Lips

I couldn't resist this play on words. I photographed my two tulips today with the withering daffodils in the background. You'll be seeing them again because they are the only two left from a rather large planting years ago. These bulbs are edible and they must be delicious. From now on I'll stick with daffodils because their bulbs are poisonous. The day is getting nicer; the sun just came out and there is a cool soft breeze. Going out to work and play now. See you later, Rosemary.

Young Designer In Training

Isn't this how all fashion designers got started? I learned to sew by making doll clothes by hand before my mother would let me use the sewing machine. I adore this image by Arthur Rackham, don't you? It's chilly this morning and it rained all night, a perfect day to sit on the sofa and look at pretty pictures in books. Agreed? Happy Friday, Rosemary.

Newborn Baby Birds | Amazing Photo

I wonder what kind of baby birds these are? The beak looks rather like an ostrich. I don't think I've ever seen a more amazing photo of such brand new life. I'm so glad they have each other. Their heads remind me of figs.

The Botany of Desire | PBS

The Botany of Desire: Based on the book by Michael Pollan | PBS
This is airing on PBS in the New York area on Sunday, 4/18 at 9:00 pm. Click on the link and watch the preview, then go to the "watch" tab to check the schedule in your area. I can't wait to see this documentary. I've already set my DVR to record it. Free is good. I love PBS.

You can also watch the preview here.

Castle In The Clouds

I took this photo of a beautiful sky last year. I thought this was the perfect quote to put up there. Have a great day. See you later, Rosemary.

Paying Taxes Old Style

Please tell me you aren't doing this right now. I was at the post office today expecting a big line of people waiting to mail their income taxes but there was only one person there. I guess everyone's waiting until tomorrow. Not boasting, not bragging, but mine were finished long ago. Thank goodness. My heart bleeds for everyone who's still working on them. Good luck and goodnight.

Save New Jersey Libraries | Please

Budget imperils New Jersey's libraries
I go to the library at least once a week. My mother is legally blind from macular degeneration and she listens to books on tape every day. Webster likes them too. Mother (89 years old) loves a good mystery and Webster likes any audio book read by a man. For new readers of this blog I must explain that Webster is a dog. Tabitha (the cat) isn't picky and will listen to anything. The new governor of NJ Chris Christie is proposing a 74% reduction in library funding to include a 50% cut in direct aid to libraries. This is the most serious threat to New Jersey libraries for as long as anyone can remember. Click on the link above to read the full story about this whole mess.

I filled out a protest card at the Morristown library today (pictured above in photos 2, 3, and 4); they will mail it for me. Please go to your local NJ library to do this as well. There are more links below you should look at if you want to save New Jersey Libraries and their FREE INTERNET ACCESS which will disappear if this goes through.

We must raise our voices and protest as loudly as we can since the librarians can't speak above a whisper and don't belong to a union. They are planning a rally in Trenton to lobby for themselves on May 6th. I hope someone will be listening.

This is National Library Week and I'd much rather be posting something that celebrates libraries instead of threatening them.

Hermes Window Displays In Milan

Hermes Paper Window Displays
Milan, Italy ~ Via della Spiga is considered to be one of the best locations for shopping and elegance in the world. This busy Milan street is lined with Victorian architecture filled with posh boutiques and cafes. The Hermes windows are attracting a lot of attention right now. Their fantasy displays are inspired by fables and fairy tales with a series of intricate and colorful 3-D paper animals coming out of gilded frames from a background of black and white storybook illustrations! Click on the link to see all of the windows. I love the Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland the best.

Daffodils And A Windmill

I thought this photo of Holland in the spring would be a fitting image for this morning. My daffodils are almost all gone but other people still seem to have them. We are so eager for the first blooms of spring but the late-blooming varieties are necessary to have a grand display that lasts. I would love to see the tulip fields in The Netherlands, wouldn't you? I'll be back later, Rosemary.

Three Nice Porches

Which one do you like best? Porch season is here. It's drizzling rain at my house today but there's a little chill in the air so I'll have to choose the first one because it's glassed in. When it gets hotter I'll move to the second one. The third is a nice place to sit and watch the world go by since it looks out on the front. I'll sip my morning coffee there and watch the bluebirds fly around catching insects to feed their babies.

Bluebells On A Country Path

I thought you'd all enjoy taking a morning walk with me down this country lane to look at all the bluebells on this slope in the UK. Aren't they beautiful?

Goodnight, Time For Bed And Primetime

I had a busy and productive day. I just took my laundry off the line and made my bed. Can't wait to jump in it and watch TV. Monday night is my favorite. See you tomorrow, Rosemary.
