I scanned these images from another of my antiquarian children's books:'The Hey Diddle Diddle Picture Book by R. Caldecott' published in London by Frederick Warne and Co., Ltd. (the same company that published all of the Beatrix Potter books).

I absolutely love the 19th century illustrations by Randolph Caldecott. Click any picture to enlarge. Aren't they wonderful?

Today, The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association. The Caldecott medal honors the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children published in the United States during the preceding year. The name of Randolph Caldecott, the famous English illustrator of books for children, was chosen for the medal because his work was deemed to best represent the joyousness and beauty of picture books.

Wake me when it's summer or Let sleeping dogs lie + Bluebirds . . .

Webster was begging to go outside and sun on the deck but in no time he wanted to get back in because it is still very chilly. I put blankets under him and over him and that did the trick.

He looks so comfortable I am tempted to join him! By the way, the bluebirds are back! They've been scouting out their nesting places and have already called dibs on both of the houses you see behind Webster.

My snowdrops are blooming . . .

My snowdrops usually pop in in February and by mid March they are almost in full bloom. I love these tiny bulbs that spread so quickly and are the first harbingers of Spring.

It was nice enough today to hang a white load of wash outside and everything is now dry and ready to take off the line.

I used my point and shoot to capture the snowdrops. It's an older Panasonic Lumix FX-01 with a Leica lens and it's excellent. Sometimes it's better than my Nikon D40 SLR because I can get really close without getting on my knees in the wet leaves. This odd angle would have been hard to get looking through a viewfinder. It's good to have both. Both of my cameras are only 6 megapixels and that's fine for everything I do.

Laundry drying in my kitchen . . .

I did a load of wash yesterday and hung it outside on the line. It was still very damp when I brought it inside and threw it hurriedly on my antique wooden rack. There is a big cast iron radiator directly behind the dutch door to quickly finish the job. All the small items are hanging on a folding floor rack.

I can't remember the last time I used my gas dryer. I absolutely love the way clothes smell when they've been outdoors -- so nice and fresh. This was my first winter with a clothes line. I wondered if I would break down and resort to modern conveniences. So far, so good. I am pretty determined to continue my pioneer ways.

Chai Tea with Soy Milk (Recipe) . . .

I found this recipe for Chai Tea in my clippings drawer. I love chai and this is a great recipe. Can't tell you where it came from because there is no magazine name on my ripped page.

I have used the vanilla soy milk and added some extra real vanilla extract because I don't like the vanilla bean step. I don't usually have them in my cupboard but I always have everything else. The vanilla soy milk is sweet so you might be able to reduce the honey. I have also used organic sugar instead of honey. Play around with the recipe and enjoy.
