Restored Farmhouse Bathroom

I love this "new" bathroom in an old house. The smallish sink with the large marble surround and backsplash looks perfect. The old wide-board floors were saved and will enjoy a new life in this wonderful bath. Wish we could see the rest of the room, don't you?

Sunroom / Potting Room in a Craftsman Bungalow

Morningside bungalow potting/sunroom, Minneapolis. Meriwether Inc.
This 1919 bungalow was lovingly taken care of but just needed a few things to make it complete. The owner, an avid gardener wanted someplace to bring in plants during the winter months. This small addition accomplishes many things in one small footprint. This potting room, just off the dining room, doubles as a mudroom. Design by Meriwether Felt, Photo by Susan Gilmore

A Peek into My Pantry

My pantry was once a screened-in porch.
Now it's one of my favorite "rooms" in the cottage.

Walk-Out Window to Porch

Wow. I love this idea. Why have I never seen this before? This is so much better than French doors. DO WANT!!! I love the porch railing too. LOVE. via

Marble Countertops: Yes or No?

I have marble countertops in my kitchen and bathroom. I have blogged about them in the past, complaining about the way anything and everything can leave an etched mark, even a glass of water that's wet on the bottom. Would I put them in again? Yes. Over time they get a great patina.
Read this article if you are considering them too.

Moving Furniture Around in My Cottage

When my desk came back from the restorer after I snapped off the lid (yes, I did!), I decided to put it in the living room instead of its old location in the kitchen and I like it. The guys did a wonderful job repairing the lid and they fixed all of the drawer runners in the case so I can now open and close them with ease. I'm so happy! Have a great weekend. xo

A Peek into My Kitchen

The house was dark last night when I remembered Tabitha was still outside. When I clicked on the kitchen light I decided to take a photo. I love the way it turned out. Good night. See you in the morning. xo

Best Laundry Room (Closet)

Isn't this great? I love the old office door on the barn door track so much in this setting. There are so many clever people out there, aren't there? via

Decoupage Plates

I love this fantastic decoupage plate by John Derian Company.

I have only one piece and it's signed on the back. There is some paint loss under the backing so it must have been a reject. I got it at a garage sale for 25 cents years ago. I don't know about you, but when I buy something I love at a local house sale, I can usually remember exactly where I bought it, what kind of day it was, the seller, and all sorts of other details. I bought this plate on a beautiful summer day and my mother was with me. The sale was in the driveway and garage of a lovely home. Friends and relatives of the owners brought their goods too, so there was a big variety of good stuff and junk. I hope they have another one this year!

Wonderful Attic Room

Isn't this attic room with a Cape Cod view absolutely wonderful? Look at the size of those floor boards! I love that writing arm windsor but would prefer a more comfortable chair for soaking in this amazing view from this wonderful windows. via

Perfect Entrance Hall

I adore everything in this welcoming entrance hall, especially the Dutch door. The paneling is beautiful and I love the landing on the stairs with a bench behind. There's a front porch too and I wish I could see this entrance from the outside. The season for opening the windows and throwing open the doors is approaching, and I can't wait. Have a great weekend. xo via
UPDATE: A blog reader named Jan found a link showing more photos of this summer house in the Hamptons. I'll take the guest cottage, please. Thanks, Jan

Domestic Happiness in 1835

This is the frontispiece engraving for one of my Antiquarian Books published in New York in 1835. I love looking at the interiors and checking out the furnishings.
I am working on my taxes this week and might even finish today, fingers crossed. xo

Peeking Inside My Cottage

I took this at night when I was outside. This is the only way you can see the whole room, front to back. Good night, everyone. I had a busy day. xo
