For Sale: Renée Zellweger’s Old House in Connecticut

Click here for slideshow from Architectural Digest.
The clapboard exterior of Renée Zellweger’s 18th century Connecticut retreat.

The primarily white kitchen has butcher-block countertops. I wouldn't want this half-wall looking into the formal dining room. I wouldn't want to look at the hanging pot rack in the kitchen from the dining room.

The Quinebaug River runs through the property.

Pennsylvania Stone Farmhouses in the Brandywine Valley

The 1725 John Chad House has traditional pent eaves between the stories. I've never seen this feature in person but it looks quite wonderful in this photo.

The brick 1724 Abiah Taylor House, near West Chester, has an unusual second-floor balcony in the center of the pent roof, and restored casement windows. The 1995 frame wing at right was added by architect John Milner, a leader in the continuing farmhouse tradition. These two photos came from this fascinating article.

Childe Hassam Flags - July 4, 1916

Frederick Childe Hassam
Oil on canvas. 36" x 23.13
Private collection.

Childe Hassam - July 4, 1916

The Fourth of July, 1916. The Greatest Display of the American Flag Ever Seen in New York. This painting was inspired by the climax of the Preparedness Parade in May of that year. It must have been an inspiring sight to behold. Thankfully, we have this world-famous painting to document the historic World War I parade down Fifth Avenue.

Enjoy the Independence Day fireworks tonight. via

Rustic Cabin with Fireplace

This looks so enticing, doesn't it? I love the red leather club chairs and the stone raised hearth fireplace. I think that's a big desk on the left. Isn't this the best study ever? via pinterest

Carpenter Gothic Cottage - Artist's Studio

This small 19th-century white clapboard house in Bangall, NY doesn’t look like a workplace, but the jewelry designer Gabriella Kiss’s studio is located inside. You are in for a real treat. There is a wonderful slideshow of the inside compliments of The New York Times. via

Perfect Entrance Hall

I love the use of the library table full of antiquarian books. Black lampshades on brass bases are my favorite lamps. Love the artwork, the plants, the artwork, the antiques, the oriental runner, and the sisal carpet on the stairs. There staircase is monumental. Absolute perfection on all counts.

Shorebird Weathervane circa 1880

I love the cutout heart within the banner. The shorebird motif is rare and the patina on this piece is wonderful. via
