Circa 1700 Former Laundry & Dairy Renovation

Former winner of Period Living's home of the Year award, this beautiful family home was once a neglected outbuilding

Every part of the house needed attention, from the chimneys down. You can still see the marks in the brickwork where the doors and windows were moved. New windows and a front door were made by RM Jones Joinery. The couple also added a bootroom (left of first picture).

The back hall, with wall-to-ceiling cupboards made by Gwyn Dowell. The flooring is limestone, which works well with the underfloor heating, and the walls and cupboards are painted in Farrow & Ball’s Oval Room Blue(opens in new tab) (Image credit: Kasia Fiszer)

What an impressive restoration. One can only imagine how difficult it must have been for the owners to fulfill their dream of making The Laundry even better than it was, originally. I believe they succeeded!

Pam -- I'm glad they won an award for this labor of love. This restoration is just wonderful and it's a dream realized for the whole family. Maybe one day there will be another article showing the gardens. The husband is a builder who likes gardening too. I think the end result is a huge success too. xo, Rosemary

This is a beautiful renovation of a very old property, carried out with love and care. It couldn't have been easy as it is a Grade-II listed building so the owners would have had to consult with the local council every step of the way before doing any work. So lovely that the building has been in the same family for so long.

Tasha T -- The builder husband had lots of experience working on Grade-II listed buildings and he wanted to do everything properly on his own future home. I know it must have taken extra time to present what he and his wife wanted to do at council meetings but it was all worth it in the end. They must be so happy living in the dream house they created from a neglected farm building. They did much of the work themselves and that always makes a project extra special. I'm glad you enjoyed the article too. xo, Rosemary
