Sunday Morning around My Cottage

Filtered sun streaming in my windows.

Try as I may and try as I might, I simply cannot stop myself from piling things on my farmtable. This half is opposite my vestibule which is unheated. I always take of my shoes and start dumping at this end.😂

I took this photo late Saturday just before sundown. I liked the way my kitchen polished chrome sink faucet shines but nothing else shows.

My birds keep me busy refilling their feeder. All perches are occupied and a little chickadee patiently waits his turn.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Now if only we could find you a "No Vacancy" sign for your birdfeeder. Our feathered friends need all the help they can get!

Pam -- That would be a cute sign to find. There is a LOT of activity here. They birds actually share quite nicely and don't spend much time on the perches. They like to fly back into the evergreen trees to crack open the sunflower seeds. I have lots of ground feeders too; mourning doves, juncos, and cardinals are my favorites and an occasional squirrel. The bigger birds like blue jays and large woodpeckers with red heads prefer the tree trunk feeder. There are lookout birds that start yelling to spread the word when I put out a fresh supply of seeds. Happy birdwatching. xo, Rosemary

annette -- I'm glad you think so and can relate. My table looks rather tidy at the moment but there are times when it's completely covered with papers to be filed in the attic and things that need to go down to the basement. I took care of those things yesterday when I cleaned. Yes, it's a lived in look most of the time. xo, Rosemary

Thank you for posting photos of your kitchen - I love it. I can see that this is a well-used and well-loved room, just as it should be. A kitchen, after all, is the heart of the home.

Tasha T -- Thank you for liking my kitchen. It is definitely well used and well loved by me and most people who see it. I agree that the kitchen is the heart of the home. xo, Rosemary

As always, I love to see the pictures you take of the inside of your home. Little things I see give me incentive to be more creative in my own home. This is the first house I've had where the kitchen was big enough for a large kitchen table and I LOVE it. Since it's just two of us at most meals, I have the opportunity to spread out different projects I'm involved in on one end of the table and still have room for us to sit and eat at the other. It's comfortable and yours look as though it's the same!

Mama Pea -- We are exactly the same. Having a large kitchen table is the best, isn't it? So much better than a kitchen island because it doubles as that too. I'm so glad to hear you finally have a kitchen large enough for yours. xo, Rosemary

Not a white cupboard in sight - THANK YOU:)! What a charming, cozy kitchen . . .

This 'all white' stuff is SO not my 'thing':)

Unless one has a maid, one must have a dumping place! But -- I suppose if one had a maid, she could do the errands and shopping, too... and putting away. What I would like is an old-fashioned solicitor who would take care of all the business. He could keep the associated stuff in his own office, so my kitchen could have clear surfaces, if only briefly, in between all the projects I would do on them.

It's hard to resist starting those projects before I have put away the random stuff. I have two tables in my kitchen/dining area and always stuff and projects getting mixed up together. I guess I have given up on changing!

Karen -- Thank you. I don't think I would like having an all white kitchen either. I tried to match the paint on the base of my farm table for my kitchen cabinets. Have a great Christmas. xo, Rosemary

Gretchen Johanna -- Your comment is the best. If I had a maid I would have to clean before she came so it would be pointless. I had a husband and wife couple for a very brief time and that's what I did and I haven't had help since then. Of course, you are talking about the kind in the movies who did everything and were part of the family. I actually have an office in my pantry just about 3 steps away from my farm table but somehow the paperwork accumulates in the kitchen. Maybe that will be my New Year's resolution. I hope you get your old-fashioned solicitor one day. He sounds perfect. I know what you mean about all the papers getting mixed up because mine do too. Anyway we will probably both be this way forever.

Now that the weather is colder, lots of birds are coming to my seed feeder and particularly so to the suet feeder. Between birds and squirrels, they can go through a cake of suet per day. Even a big Pileated woodpecker is visiting. Sorry to say, I can’t remember the name I gave her last year … maybe it was Dolly. She’s a real beauty and stands out like a sore thumb now that the leaves have all fallen. She loves the suet feeder and it’s fun to watch the feeder swing back and forth when she’s on.
My kitchen table is covered up also. Okay since I never eat there anyway. Single diners can eat anywhere they like.

Judy -- I think your Pileated woodpecker WAS named Dolly. It must be thrilling to see her swinging back and forth at your suet feeder!!!! My kitchen table is now completely covered too but no worries since I usually eat in the living room from my lap in front of the TV. xo, Rosemary

Ah, dinner in front of the TV … I know that well. xo

JudyMac -- Judy, My family had tv trays and we used them as often as my mother would allow. It's still how I eat most of my meals and I don't have to ask permission😂 xo, Rosemary

I can certainly relate to the table for being a landing place for everything! My table is a harvest table about 8 ft long that my parents bought in 1958 when we lived in New Vernon and although I love it, it does act like a magnet for everything!
