Cat on Rug -- Dutch Painting

Salomon Meijer (1877 - 1965)
The only subject that has been a constant during Sal Meijer's painting life is that of the cat. He paints portraits of cats as individuals; they are frontally depicted and look the viewer directly in the eye. Meijer's cats are seen in the comfort of their own home and in close up.
I love this one, don't you?
Auctioned by Christie's here.

I really like this painting....it’s the cat!! I haven’t had indoor pet cats in years.
Think I’ve been wanting one at least . We feed 3 feral cats out where we keep the hay,
but it’s not the same. We have no mice out there and one goes after the gophers.
They earn their keep and have a nice place to sleep. Do you have a cat?
I may have missed it if you do.

Linda A. --I no longer have a cat. My first one lived to be 19 and was an indoor/outdoor cat named Peaches. My mother's cat was named Tabitha. We never knew how old she was when she "adopted" my mother at the shelter. She was an indoor cat and my mother walked her on a leash. Oh, I forgot about a solid black cat we had with 6 toes named Midnight. I got her from someone who was moving to live cross country in his camper. She was also indoor and outdoor but one day she walked into the woods here and never came home. After that when we got Tabitha my mother was fearful of letting her loose outside. Now I am just happy with my sometimes dog named Missy. I cannot imagine having an animal during this house painting adventure. Today is their last day. xo, Rosemary
