California Quail and Chick

Isn't this the sweetest photo?
Found on InstagramPhoto by Adam Skalzub
The photographer noted that this was a male taking care of his 15 babies while his mate had the afternoon off. He also said that in all the wildlife photos he has taken in his career, this one is by far the most popular. I can see why too. ♡🐦♡

What a fabulous picture. Really heartwarming to read that the father helps with the young. When we were on the farm, we had a covey of quails that lived in an evergreen thicket. I think there were usually around 10-15 birds. It was fun to see the little ones. They had a way of bouncing around as they learned to venture out. I always enjoyed the sounds they make, too. As I recall, they usually stayed in their little group. Maybe this helped to protect them from predators. I know they're not very fast movers. Thanks for sharing such a delightful picture, Rosemary. It warmed my heart to see that precious little bird nestled safely in its fathers feathers. Oh my, if only the entire world could know such security.

It is absolutely the sweetest photo! California Quail is our state bird, as you might have guessed. I haven't seen one in a very long time, however my dad told me he would see them on the golf course frequently, along with ducks and their ducklings, and just about every other animal you might encounter. I understand they mate for life. This is a very sweet picture. It brought a smile to my face. Thanks for sharing, Rosemary.

I am going to buy a matted print of this photo. Our son watches his 4 young children and runs the household. His talented wife is the breadwinner. Our last name is Partridge…Partridges and Quails are in the same family.

Lisa D. -- I loved the photo too and even more when I learned more about this "stay at home dad" taking care of his 15 babes. xo, Rosemary

Pam -- You were fortunate to have your very own covey of quails on your farm. If only....your last sentence. xo, Rosemary
