🐾Missy's Last Evening Walk🐾

Missy and I walked to the way back yesterdat at 4:00 to beat the darkness of a 4:35 sundown. I had to turn on the lights in the front and the floodlights in the back for our bedtime walk. I am always to walk very far from the house because of all the bear🐻sightings I read about in local alerts. She's going home today and so this is her goodbye post.🐾🐾

I must have jiggled the camera while holding the leash and the camera at the same time. Her right rear leg looks very odd but I don't have another shot of her looking back. She lives close by so I get to see her often and she's always glad when I pop in. I have a lot to do today after she goes home, mostly housework. I don't miss the dog hair associated with dog ownership so a dogsitter I shall remain.

I enjoy being dog-sitter for a dear friend but when it's time for her to go home, we're BOTH ready. She's had her spa days at the Richards B&B and I've had my "dog-fix" for a while. We have a lovely time together.

Gail, northern California -- Gail, I hear you. I enjoyed having Missy for 5 days and we had a nice time and great weather. She was glad to see her owner and I am glad to have my house back after an afternoon of cleaning. She really didn't interfere with my routine except for the night bedtime walks in the dark. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. xo, Rosemary

It's a good friend who will dog-sit. I'm sure Missy and owner are appreciative. Happy Thanksgiving.

I think you have found a great solution for having some dog interaction without the constant work. I have a Lab who is a young 10 years old. I adopted him 3 years ago. I also have a cat I rescued 4 years ago, but she is still young. I will not replace my Lab when he goes, even though it breaks my heart to think of my home without a dog in it. But I wouldn't mind having a little break, as well as more freedom to visit family & friends who don't live nearby. Dog sitting might be an option, but I have no fence & my road can be busy at times, which would be a worry. I suppose I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Missy & her owner are very fortunate to have you close by. I'm sure they both know that!

...all is grace!

Missy is a love, and I bet she loves visiting you. I can't believe there are bears that close to where you live, Rosemary! For heaven's sake, be careful! The last time I saw a bear was decades ago at Yosemite.

Great photo of Missy and your cottage in the background. I agree with you about pet hair. I am all done with it. Our kids have dogs, and helping with them (and cleaning up after them) keeps me from going out and adopting more. When we were younger we had animals, but our last stray cat was much adored, but he had a tendency of causing me to trip. When he passed away, I knew I wouldn't get another one.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving, Rosemary!!

Anita ~ the cabin on the creek :: My house is very close to the road and the speed limit is 40 MPH and the cars go whizzing by. I am not fenced either. Missy is always on a leash. I had Webster trained to be off leash and not run away and the many times he did during training was in the woods in the way back. I never walked him in he front. We always went out the back door and down to the "way back" and then beck inside through the back door. Missy always looks out my front window to see the people walking and riding bikes go by and she always pulls towards the road. She's very strong too but so am I and she has absolutely no street smarts. I enjoy her as a "sometimes dog" but I don't want one of my own. You won't have any trouble at all finding your dogsitting pal. All you have to do is befriend someone who has a dog you like and volunteer to watch the dog anytime. I did this when Webster was still alive with a small dog but I had to back out after a few visits because of bad bathroom habits in the house regardless of having numerous walks. Make that clear up front.
Have a fabulous Thanksgiving. xo, Rosemary

Lisa D. -- The bears aren't hibernating yet because of the mild weather. I subscribe to online alerts and get frequent notices on my phone about a "non-agressive black bear" wandering around somewhere nearby. I haven't seen any scat so far this year on my property but have in the past. I live adjacent to county parkland with 883 acres woods and open land with 9.9 miles of walking and riding trails shared by lots of wild life. Most of the bears are reportedly eating birdseed at feeders in the nearby homes and they come back for more if the people don't take them down. That's the story. Have a great Thanksgiving. xo, Rosemary

Pam -- We all have our reasons for not wanting permanent pets in our homes but that doesn't mean we don't enjoy taking care of one from time to time. I am enjoying my freshly vacuumed house very much this morning🙃 Have a great Thanksgiving. xo, Rosemary
