First Cool Day Today (Friday)

After running my central AC for three straight days, I an happy to report it has now been turned OFF. I am thrilled to be enjoying an overcast day after an overnight rain. My windows are now wide open and the birds are singing. I always turn off the AC at night and run this vintage oscillating fan that sounds like a freight train but doesn't keep me awake. The lowest setting should be labeled hurricane, so it does a great job😂 Don't worry, it's safe because I had it professionally rewired.

I got an email from a friend this morning. She was unable to sign up for the new emails on her iPad so I did it for her. If you are having trouble too, let me know in the comments and I will sign you up from this end. You will get a confirmation email to finish the process. All I need is the first three or four letters/digits of your email address. If you were an old subscriber, I should be able to find you on the email list I downloaded from Feedburner. If you are a new subscriber/follower, I will need your complete email address.

I envy your cooler days. We are burning up here in the West and now on water restrictions so the lawn is dying. Temps have been between 90-100+ for the past 5 weeks with no end or rain in sight. So grateful for air conditioning. Enjoy your open windows and fresh air.

The Queen Vee -- Victoria, I can't even imagine what it must be like with the weather you are having! Three days of being "sealed" in my house was enough for me. I have a high threshold for being hot before I resort to turning on my central air. I am grateful I have it then! The Pacific Northwest and British Columbia are having unheard of heat and my heart goes out to everyone suffering.
Thanks for stopping by the Cottage.

I like your fan. My husbands grandmother's last name was Diehl, so I'm guessing your fan is a solid, German-made fan that will keep you cool for many years to come. Very happy to hear you had some rain and nicer weather.

Pam -- I had to get my flashlight and examine the label on my vintage fan. It was MADE IN FINDERN, NEW JERSEY USA and manufactured by DIEHL, the electrical division of of SINGER! So I'm guessing it has never been out of New Jersey and ended up in a good home with a vintage Singer sewing machine to keep it company. The fan weighs a TON, 15 pounds actually so it's all metal. No plastic parts here. This morning it's a cool 61° at the cottage and overcast.
Have a happy July 4th.

tammy j -- Tam, I have another vintage fan up in the attic. I am able to handle heat as an adult much better than I could as a child. My mother always told me not to think about it so now I don't. Today (Saturday morning) it's 61° at 7:45 in the morning and the sky is gray. Enjoy July 4th.

Bless your heart for researching the Diehl Company!

Pam -- My pleasure. Maybe the company that made my fan was founded by your husband's relatives.
DIEHL MFG. CO. -
ELECTRICAL DIVISION OF THE SINGER MFG. CO. -
FINDERNE N.J., U.S.A.
Happy July 4th!

Pam -- I posted my fan photo on Instagram and a lady commented her family had a larger version in their home when she was growing up. They called it THE BIG DIEHL 😂
