HAMISH MACBETH: I absolutely LOVE this series filmed in Scotland. It's about an unambitious policeman who is more interested in keeping the peace than following the law. He likes where he lives and doesn't want to be in the limelight too much and get transferred. Each episode has a new "crime" and Hamish solves it always accompanied by his little West Highland Terrier named Jock. The small town is filled with quirky characters such as one named TV Bob. His family was the first to get TV when he was a boy and the nickname stuck. I am watching on Acorn TV but it's also available to stream on Amazon Prime Video and Tubi TV. There are three seasons. It's old but timeless, circa 1995-97. Let me know if you've seen it or like it after you start watching and are hooked. xo

I have not watched this series, but the title has always somewhat interested me. I will definitely give it a try with your recommendation. Thanks Rosemary!
...all is grace!
Anita ~ the cabin on the creek -- Anita, One of my friends recommended it to me and we have the same taste in Acorn TV programs. She was right; I love Hamish Macbeth. Hope you will too.

I love the book series! The author is M.C. Beaton.
I knew about the tv series. but have only seen a few of them.
I have read M.C. Beaton's book for YEARS!!! I love every one of them! in the book Hamish has red hair. and his dog is different and there are different Wonderful characters.
I was disappointed in the series because Hamish looked Nothing like what I was used to in her books. but I haven't read any in awhile now. (she also does Agatha Raisin mysteries set in the Cotswolds of England. they are fantastic as well. Agatha is retired. and hilarious btw)
maybe I'll watch it just Fresh. like I didn't Know Hamish from her mystery novels! that's how you have to approach things they do like that. let them stand on their own. so I'm willing to give it another go! is Priscilla still in them? the girl he loves whose posh father owns the hotel?
I have Always Adored Hamish and his laid back ways. he Hates Inverness! and doesn't want to leave his highlands!!!
I'm so glad you did this post. it excites me to give it another chance! XOXO
We watched this series (via Acorn) about a year ago and loved it! Great character development, sad when it ended. Other favorites we have watched "Foyles War" (British), "Dr. Finlay" (Scottish), "A Place Called Home" (Aussie. Lots of great viewing ahead!
tammy j -- Tam, Yes, beautiful Priscilla is still in the series. My friend who recommended this series advised me to stick with it. She said it got better after the first episode. Thanks for more of the background to differentiate the video from the books.
I have watched quite a few Scottish crime series and liked them all. I recently finished McCALLUM about a forensic pathologist (John Hannah) working in a morgue. I know this subject is not for everyone but, once again, the stories are good and the characters too.
Happy viewing.

itztru -- I watched most of A Place to Call Home on PBS and finished it up after I subscribed to Acorn TV. It was a wonderful series. I have seen many episodes of Foyles War but not all of them. I will investigate Dr. Finlay soon. Thanks for stopping by to comment.
