Lavender in Wicker Baskets

I always stop to look at beautifully planted wicker baskets. These two full of lavender are gorgeous. I see a boxwood in the background planted in a basket with handles. This looks like a gorgeous dwelling too. Wish we could see more. Photo found here.

I have been busy working outside. I literally washed the outside front of my cottage today and it looks and smells sparkling clean and rid of all the road dirt and mildew. I have a long telescoping pole with a bar at the end that is wrapped with lambswool-like material only it's cotton. It wasn't hard and I actually enjoyed it. It's much kinder than power washing and doesn't knock the paint off.

I love all things blue and lavender! Those baskets are so pretty against the neutral backdrop of the home. I can almost smell the lavender...

So glad you were able to work on your cottage! It feels great to complete projects.

Just curious, what sort of soap solution did you use?

Mary Schwaner -- Mary: I made up my own solution. I have one of those large gray rectangular containers, the kind the bus boys use to collect dirty dishes in restaurants. I put it on my front walk and filled it with hot water using a large pitcher with back and forth trips to my kitchen sink. Then I dumped in a goodly amount of Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Multi-Surface Concentrate. You could use any liquid cleaner. Then I dumped in a lot of Clorox. I topped it off with several squirts of Dawn Platinum Dishwashing detergent. I really didn't measure anything. I used the leftover to wash my front walk to get rid of all the "green" areas near my front door that doesn't get much direct sun.
I didn't rinse the house or the walk with the hose. I just let everything dry in place. I am very happy with the end result.

A few months back after moving into this little cottage, a friend asked, "So, what did you do today?" "I washed the house, " was my response. She said, "You mean you cleaned house." "No, I washed the house, the outside walls. The house doesn't need paint. It looks brand new with the dirt and grim cleaned off, the spiders webs removed." So, I know exactly what you're saying, Rosemary....it's less harsh to the finish than power washing and I believe you use less water (a precious commodity here in California).

Wow what a huge job. I have a telescoping window cleaner it might work for the siding. My problem is I would not have the attention span to get the job done. I admire you so much Rosemary, your can do attitude and focus to take on big projects and complete them.

The lavender filled baskets are heavenly. I have a lot of lavender planted around my house, probably too much. The bees love it and I love feeding the bees.

Gail, northern California -- Gail, We are definitely kindred spirits. I forgot to mention the spider webs behind my shutters!!! I cleaned them off with a radiator brush. It is nice to know someone who has washed their house too. This is the second time I have done mine.

The Queen Vee -- Victoria, You can never have too much lavender. You do not have a short attention span. You are one of the busiest women I know! Your Halloween card this year is fabulous and thank you so much for the black mask decorated with a spider covered in orange glitter. I will BEWAREing it on Wednesday to an outdoor pizza gathering at my office. Thank you so much.

That's not all, Rosemary. I'm about to vacuum the bamboo with a power vac when temperatures cool down if doing so won't clog the machine. Will have to ask the rental company.

Gail, northern Califoria -- Gail, You could borrow my shop vac if we were closer. Good luck vacuuming the great outdoors!

Oh, so happy that your card arrived as some have not. The USPS is having a rough go right now I guess. I should have hot glued the spider on the mask. I aways think of these things way too late, but when producing 31 handmade cards one's mind starts to fog up.

Lynn Anne Miller -- The paint color for the trim looks like Essex Green to me. It's a deep forest green that looks almost black. I think it's Benjamin Moore. The siding is stucco and it's unpainted but a dye can be added. It look natural and undyed to me. xo, Rosemary
