My wild violets are all over my front lawn and I dearly love them. Their sweet faces always brighten my day or, in this case, my evening. Stay safe. Stay strong. Stay home. xo
We let our violets grow all over our place, too. I noticed that there are some of the dark purple ones in my strawberry bed. We're still staying in and doing our best to stay healthy. You take care of yourself, too, Rosemary.
Love your bicolored violets! Glad to hear you have them in your lawn, too. We have blankets of deep purple violets also in our lawn. I like to say they jumped over the garden fence. I absolutely love them but in a neighborhood where lawns rule, it could be said we have weeds...but of course they aren't to us!! They seem to bloom just when the grass needs it's first mow, so my hubby gets on his hands and knees to cut bouquets of them for my table when I host my annual "Spring Violet Tea Party". He also does his best to mow around the largest patches of violets to spare them...and in fact does that with all the delicate little wildflowers that blossom throughout the season. There is always a specialized variety of bee for every tiny bloom.
JEANNE ILLENYE -- Your husband sounds very special but of course you already know that. Your Spring Violet Tea Party must be very lovely. My violet "weeds" are knee deep in grass that needs to be cut but I will wait a little longer before the first mowing. We are having some pretty violent rain and wind so I can't mow anyway. My sweet mother once picked a bridal bouquet of violets for one of my girlfriends. She wanted violets but no florists had them. My mother knew just where to pick wild ones and surprised her with them. I am honored to have these wildflowers in my lawn to remind me of my mother. Happy Spring. Stay safe. xo, Rosemary
My mother once picked enough violets for one of my girlfriend's bridal bouquet.
Pam -- I have a few dark purple ones too but the ones in my photo are the predominant violets. I love them because they really show up in the grass and the purple ones just sort of blend in. Lucky you with a strawberry bed where the purple violets will be safe. We are all in this together. xo, Rosemary
