18th Century Paper Cut Flower by Mary Delaney

via
Cut paper collage by Mary Delaney, English, 1700-1788. She began making these lovely intricate paper flowers when she was 70. It's never too late to start being awesome, is it? xo

Paper cutting extraordinaire...unbelievably fine.
I wonder who it was that decided her work was worth saving.

Thank you, Rosemary! I had read about Mrs. Delaney in the past and I find her and her work fascinating...how ever did she cut so finely?

Thanks for another great post!

Mary was extraordinarily talented. I've read quite a bit about her but can't remember what I've read....it's awful not being able to retain information these days. I love that you say it's never to late to start being awesome. I will never be artistically awesome but I can be awesome at appreciating other people's awesomeness. I appreciate your awesomeness Rosemary and the beautiful photos you post along with your wonderful commentary.

The flower is a Passion Flower, the state wildflower of Tennessee. Blooms about August.

Joy Branham -- Joy, Thanks. I remember seeing these growing wild when I was a child in the deep south but never see them now. Their complex beauty is unreal.
