First Ever Bluebird Twins

Four eggs (including an unusually large one, lower right) hatched into five chicks—a first report for Eastern Bluebirds. Photo by Gerald Clark. Read the article here. More sad news about the twins here.

If you are a bird lover and don't know about Cornell Labs, you are in for a treat. Homepage here.
Sorry about the poor quality of these photos. They are not mine but I wanted to share this story.

Thank you once again Rosemary for a very informative & interesting post. I love Eastern Bluebirds & often have them visit my porch to eat any wild rosehips I have decorated with during the winter. But sadly they never nest on my property... I believe because it is largely shaded. They do however next next door where it is sunnier in all kinds of containers. The cutest one was a small decorative watering can.

I have read your blog for about 8 years, but didn't know how to comment. So here's trying again. I recently introduced an email friend in Florida to your blog & she absolutely loves it.

Anita ~ the cabin on the creek -- Anita, You succeeded in posting a comment this time. Maybe there was a bluebird on your shoulder helping you:). Bluebirds like sparse vegetation in front of their nesting box. Think of an open meadow or an open yard where they can swoop down on insects on the ground. I have high hopes I will get them back this year as I saw them going inside my bird box again this week. Fingers crossed. Thank you for introducing my blog to your friend in Florida and I'm glad to hear she likes it too.
