I have been saving this recipe because of this photo. I will probably replace the maple syrup with a little more sugar. I don't like my muffins too sweet. If they are, they are really cupcakes. Article and printable recipe here. They look yummy, don't they?

I've been on an oatmeal muffin baking binge lately, I have tried 3 new recipes and liked them all. An apple/oatmeal muffin, a banana/oatmeal muffin and just plain oatmeal muffins. The banana/oatmeal was the sweetest due to the bananas. Like you I prefer my muffins to not be too sweet. This recipe looks good but there is quite of bit of sweet in it with the brown sugar and maple syrup. If you eliminate the syrup do you think you would need to offset it with some milk as it seems to be not only adding sweet but also liquid to the recipe? I like that the recipe calls for whole wheat flour.
