A MAN CALLED OVE: I actually watched this on a DVD from my library but it is now on Kanopy so I want to watch it again. I blogged about the book before I saw the film (with subtitles).

I just read that Tom Hanks is producing and starring in an English language interpretation of this film. That should be good. I adore Tom Hanks!
THIS BEAUTIFUL FANTASTIC: A contemporary adult fairy tale revolving around the unlikely of friendship between a reclusive young woman with dreams of being a children's book author and a cantankerous widower, set against the backdrop of a beautiful garden in the heart of London.
Bella Brown (Jessica Brown Findlay) is a beautifully quirky young woman who dreams of writing and illustrating a successful children's book. When she is forced by her landlord to deal with her neglected garden or face eviction, she meets her nemesis, match and mentor in Alfie Stephenson (Oscar-nominated actor, Tom Wilkinson), a grumpy, loveless, rich old man who lives next door and happens to be an amazing horticulturalist.
This was the first movie I watched on Kanopy 8 months ago. I found it delightful. I loved all of the library scenes and the mean librarian too. Watch the movie trailer here.

I'm so happy you shared this information about Kanopy. I signed up yesterday and watched my first film "The Bookshop". We are restricted to 5 films per month (I assumed that is imposed by our library) but still, it's great to have this streaming source. I so appreciate your review and recommendation of movies you've enjoyed.

Thanks. The second one looks delightful. I read Ove and then saw the movie. As is often the case, it didn't match what I had in my head, but I did enjoy both the book and movie, although a bit sad, of course. I appreciate your recommendations because I think you have wonderful taste in everything. Our library has Kanopy and something called Hoopla. Haven't gotten around to using them because we have other access, but God bless libraries for giving us so much for free. One thing I really appreciate is that they have memberships to museums and arboreta in the area.

Karen -- I am so happy my library allows 10 films per month. I used up all my credits before the month was over and was forced to look at The Great Courses category. My library allows unlimited access in that category. I found a 24-episode lecture series on The Age of Benjamin Franklin and it's wonderful. Enjoy Kanopy. Maybe other family members can sign up too and you can pool your assets. At my library, 13 year olds can get their own cards.

I watched the Beautiful Fantastic on Tubi (which is free but you have to endure a few commercials). Loved it, loved the quirkiness. Loved Andrew Scott. Nice to see a more sympathetic role than Moriarty in Sherlock (which was spectacular). Thanks for recommending it.
I have read and also saw the Swedish version of A Man Called Ove. I really liked both and after having a grandson who lived in Sweden for two years I've come to realize that the movie was a very good depiction of the book and of Swedes. I don't think I would watch an American film version of this book.
I can't wait to see A Beautiful Fantastic. My library does not have Kanopy, it, our library has been a great disappointment to me since moving here. I'm sure I can find this moving somewhere online, Netflix or Amazon Prime. I'll let you know.

I watched the Swedish version of A Man Called Ove. I didn't even mind reading sub titles.
Rosemary....I watched The Beautiful Fantastic and ADORED it, absolutely adored it. The fantasy, the quirky characters, how the story slowly evolved, the librarian, the charming inventor and that lovely flying bird....OH, and so fun to see Sherlock's Moriarty in whole new light. Thanks for the great suggestion. it was wonderful to watch something without gratuitous sex, bad language and violence with a lovely happy ending.
The Queen Vee --Victoria, I am so glad you enjoyed this delightful movie too. I watched it three days in a row when I first discovered it and you make me want to watch it again. With all the streaming services offering so many movies, I still have a hard time finding something to watch. I enjoy spreading the word when I find a movie I like.
