Wren Building Nest on my Balcony

This is an awful photo but I got one of the busy wrens that are building a nest in a decorative tin birdhouse left on my balcony all winter. I don't have the heart to tell them it's going to be too hot in there this summer. I will put an old painted shutter resting overhead on the railing if they are determined to live there all summer long. Both the male and the female are sharing in the hard work of gathering twigs and debris for their family home. Wrens are my favorite little birds because I love their cheerful chattering all day long. This abode is near my rear bedroom window and I look forward to waking up to their birdsong once I can go to sleep with my windows open. xo

Actually what you deemed as an awful photo reminded me of an Andrew Wyeth painting! It's beautiful.

Gail, northern California -- Gail, Welcome back. You must be feeling better and I'm glad! Thank you for that nice compliment about my photo of the little wren.

Thank you, and yes, I am feeling better...especially as the dosage for Prednisone is reduced ever-so-gradually. Patience.

I agree with Gail, the photo is lovely. It seems that the birds might be even more anxious for spring than we are! We have large shrubs growing near our home, and even with the windows closed, I can often hear the birds chattering back and forth as they build nests in those shrubs. Sometimes we're able to look out of the windows and see the nests. We watch for eggs, then the baby birds. Observing Mother Nature really does bring me joy.

Oh, that looks like a Bewick's wren! That is the bird that made nests in my straw purse on my covered loggia three years in a row!
Last year, we were buried.....and I am hoping she will return. I am afraid not. I saved all of her nests. Two a year! Works of art!

Happy Spring!

ps those capcha things are small and hard to see. I almost gave up. 7 times. I did give up on Cote de Texas blog after 10 times. And I really wanted to leave a comment.

Penelope Bianchi -- Penny, I am so sorry to hear about your having a hard time leaving a comment because of the captcha test being so hard. I researched this problem and it seems you are not the only one.

I hope your Bewick's wren can find you this spring. Fingers crossed!

Pam -- I don't feed the birds any longer because of the bears. I also don't do a very good fall cleanup and I have learned that is good for the birds because they can find food among all the fallen leaves, etc. It seems extra early for nest building to me but I guess I should learn from the busy birds and start my spring cleanup soon. I love watching the birds fly by with nest-building materials in their beaks. It's such a happy time after a long winter.

Rosemary,That is a beautiful photo and Gail has a wonderful eye to see it as a Wyeth painting. thank you to each of you for a lovely start to my day.

You will have fun listening to the little wrens. They are so chirpy and vocal. Surprise at my place this spring. Looks like the bluebirds have lost out in occupying the birdhouse on my patio. A few weeks ago I noticed a cute little pair of Carolina chickadees checking out the house. They were in and out frequently, so I decided to check out the house, and sure enough, they are building a nice little nest made of soft green moss. It’s going to be exciting watching the new pair, but i’m not sure how easy it will be to get pictures. I got a head full of pollen a week ago and am still trying to get rid of it. It has been what I call a breezy, cool spring so far.
