See the house plans for this vintage New England cottage with a Gambrel Roof and more small homes with this barn-style roof here and larger homes here.
Claire -- You are right. This is from the "Father Knows Best" era, for sure. Did they even have a TV set? Times have certainly changed! I like the simplicity of the design. xo, Rosemary
lisa -- You are absolutely correct. I found this description online: "Dutch Colonial is a style of domestic architecture, primarily characterized by gambrel roofs having curved eaves along the length of the house. Modern versions built in the early 20th century are more accurately referred to as "Dutch Colonial Revival", a subtype of the Colonial Revival style." xo, Rosemary

This style has always been my dream. Never achieved it, but still enjoy looking at this type of architecture.
Mama Pea -- It's always fun to dream and look at house plans.

This style makes me think of a kinder, gentler time . Not this fast paced, hectic life that we are all faced with now.

I love this style of roof, but never knew what it was called. Isn't it a style consistent with Dutch Colonial architecture, or am I mistaken?

Our home has that look. But we always refer to it, as a Dutch Colonial.... :-)
