I must start saving my egg shells to use in the lid of the egg carton. I adore this idea for a DIY seed starting kit. Be sure to buy your eggs in paper cartons from now on. It is cold and wintery today with a mixture of rain and snow and slippery roads. A friend just called and she said she had to use her four-wheel drive to get home from an early morning appointment. I'm not going out at all except to walk to the mailbox once the mailman arrives late this afternoon. Be safe wherever you are. xo

This is a great idea. I've used cardboard egg cartons before to plant seeds, then placed the cardboard cup directly in the ground, but have never actually planted seeds in the shell. I'll try this when I plant my Little Gem lettuce seeds. If you have never tasted Little Gem lettuce, Rosemary, they are the best!
lisa -- I will look for Little Gem lettuce seeds at the garden center this spring. I have never planted directly in egg shells either but like you, I have used the cartons and planted the cups in the soil. Happy gardening.
