Caterpillar Feasting on A Poppy Pod

Caterpillar Absolem feasting on Opium poppy (Papaver somniferum). This stunning photo is straight out of Alice in Wonderland, isn't it? I want to save it forever, I love it so. Mother Nature really outdid herself when designing this caterpillar's body and colorful markings. via

Rosemary, It seems much like a child with an ice cream cone. Amazing how luscious soft, pale colors can be!

I thought that was someone's craft project. Surely those purple bits were made from pipe cleaners?

The body of the caterpillar and the poppy pod are nearly the identical color green- oh the Wonder of it all!

Linda Sand -- I posted a photo of that poppy and it's deep purple when it blooms. I have seen colorful butterfly caterpillars that are wildly colored so I think this is an authentic photograph.

That is just amazing. It does look like it's straight out of Alice in Wonderland. Isn't nature fantastic?

If that caterpillar looks like that when it's just a caterpillar, I wonder what it looks like when it becomes a butterfly!

Fabulous photo, really fabulous and such beautiful colors. I like how you thought of Alice in Wonderland, what a great analogy.
