Pumpkin Pie Crusts for Fall

If you could ever find these little leaf and pumpkin cookie cutters, you could make these beautiful pies. Actually, after I typed the previous sentence, I searched and found them here. Pumpkin pie is my favorite because it isn't too sweet and has some nutritional value too. Get ready, the season is coming, ready or not.

I am feeling very smug and pleased with myself because I got rid of a lot of junk this week at annual trash day in town. I put it out several days early as did my neighbors, so people driving by could stop and take what they wanted and it worked! I searched my neighbor's pile too and discovered a 10-ton log splitter they were getting rid of. I immediately called a friend who helps me with big tasks and he came right over and got it. I guarded it while he was in transit. Luckily, he was nearby in his truck. Some things are just meant to be, right?

Thanks for stopping by. I have been disappointed in my blog lately and most days I have to force myself to post. My readership is way down and when Google discontinued Feedburner I lost about 3,000 followers. Instagram is so much easier to post and respond to comments as you know. But I'm hanging in there for my loyal few. xo

I love your blog! I do not always comment but I enjoy it every time you post. The problem with Instagram is that we do not get to see all of your posts. I had the same problem wiht Feedburner.

Elizabeth@Pine Cones and Acorns --
Elizabeth, When Google took over Feedburner and later shut it down my follower number went down 75% and has never recovered. I am sorry it happened to you too and to all the other bloggers as well. I try to keep my Blog special with things and photos I don't put on Instagram. It does take up a lot of my time as you will know with your own blog.
After 10 years of blogging, I would probably miss it so onward and upward I go.

Please keep this wonderful blog going. I have a handful of blogs I visit each morning with my wake-up cup of tea and yours is one of them...every single day. Without fail, you post something interesting or worthwhile. Like today's. Now, if I could just learn to make flaky piecrust, I might tackle those pretty little piecrust decorations.

I'm so glad you thought of your friend when you saw that log-splitter with his name on it. He must have been THRILLED! Guys can't resist stuff like that. Ever.

Is there some way to eliminate the "verify" exercise. I like being able to check "I am not a robot" and Publish. That's it. Done.

Sorry, Rosemary. Boy, do we ever get lazy. ;-) And, maybe it's a way to stop those who would abuse your blog.

Gail, northern California -- Gail, If you have trouble leaving a comment, I have double trouble trying to reply. On instagram, below every comment is a REPLY button. That's all. Click reply and type it. So simple. Google makes blogging much more trouble too.
If you read my blog on a computer just click on an ad every once in a while and that will help me. I have no idea how to eliminate the verify exercise. The "I am not a robot" comes up when I make a reply but I don't have to check it. I agree, It's too complicated.

Gail, northern California -- Gail, Thank you. I am happy you like the interesting and worthwhile things I post. I spend a lot of time searching for them since my own personal life is too uneventful for daily posting. Winter is coming and the days will be shorter. Right now I am just feeling a little overwhelmed with all I have to do before I turn on my furnace.
Yes, my friend loved the log splitter. Maybe now he will attend to my two trees that are down in the way back.

Hi, I really enjoy your blog and the lovely pictures you post. I just don't very often reply because I guess I don't have anything inspiring to say. I identify with you for two reasons:, one, you're a mature woman living independently and two, because you don't live far from my daughter who lives in Budd Lake.

Judy -- I am not asking for more comments. I was just having a mini pity party because of the statistics google sends me showing how much my page views have gone down as has the small amount of money I make when people click on the ads in my side bar.
I took 4 screens off my windows this afternoon and scrubbed them with hot soapy water and washed two of the windows on the outside as well. Now I'm not feeling sorry for myself anymore. The other two windows are too high up to reach and the outsides have to be done from inside the house. I'm putting that off until tomorrow.

I do so agree with all your other commenters have said and would miss you terribly if you stopped blogging. I don't do Instagram so this is my only connection with you. I admire you so very much for your upbeat attitude on life and the fact that you live independently (and successfully!) and are interested in so many things. I love when you post about the things you attempt and accomplish in your everyday life. It's like chatting with a good friend on the phone and asking, "What did you do today?" I think we're the same age (maybe I have a couple of years on you) and you don't sound or feel any older than I even though some would say we're past our prime and should stop actively living life. Phooey!

I don't think you need ever think you have nothing about which to blog. Just write about your everyday happenings. It will always be interesting.

Gail, Joy of Cooking pie crust recipe is the flakiest! And Rosemary it looks like you have a fan club and along with everyone else, I too never miss a post. Always different and comforting in this world we live in, so thank you for sharing your beautiful ideas with us!!xx

First off - I love getting your blog in the evenings! I don't think you have an uneventful life - I like reading about things you are doing around your house and love the pictures you take. By the way - my husband is very jealous of the log splitter you found:)

I had no idea about clicking ads - I really didn't. I will of course click on them now! I truly would not want to lose your blog - but would understand if you didn't want to continue.

I truly enjoy your postings - like another blogger here said - you always have interesting and wonderful ideas/pictures.

Kind Regards from Karen in the Pacific Northwest!

Rosemary, I look forward to your posts and appreciate how much time and effort it must take. There have been many times when you've inspired me to research a topic or experiment in my home or garden. I'm not technically savvy, but I'm sorry for the frustration you've experienced. Sending you a big hug and hopes for better days ahead!

I always enjoy reading your blog, Rosemary. Perhaps you are just going through a bit of a writer's dry spell, so give yourself a break. We all go through that when it comes to something that we do regularly. I'm not a blog writer, just a blog reader, so I can't comment on the Feedburner situation, and I thought that Instagram was just photos. (I'm really showing my technological ignorance here.) Perhaps I need a brush-up course on all things tech. It advances exponentially every few months, so unless you live with a techy, or a very young person, you are left to fend for yourself!

I look forward to your blog post each and every time. I love your photos and the included commentary. I do not have an Instagram account and do not intend on getting one, so you have a loyal reader of your blog and hope you continue to post.

Oh Rosemary I would be absolutely crushed if you quit blogging. Everything you post is so uplifting, inspiring, beautiful, entertaining and often informational. Even though we haven't met in person I consider you a dear friend. I relate to your upbringing, your talents, your interests and your generosity. I admire your common sense, your vast knowledge, your independence, your work ethic and your can do attitude. I really don't understand Google Feedburner but I'm sad that it has caused you a loss of follower and sad for those followers because they are missing out.

This past month I haven't been commenting much because I've just been keeping my head above water with so many in my extended family needing attention and service. But, rest assured, I read and view EVERYTHING that you post. I would HATE for you to quit but you really should blog only if you enjoy it.

I love pumpkin, I just printed out a recipe for pumpkin pancakes. I won't be able to eat them (too many carbs) but I'll make them for breakfast for my guy. I agree about pumpkin pie being one of the more healthier ones and like you, I like that it is not as sweet.

I have e greatly appreciated each of your pists. Thank you for powering through!

PS there are no side ads in the mobile version of your blog. With more and more people moving to mobile viewing that may be part of the reason your clicks have dropped.

Rosemary, I follow your blog and your Instagram posts. In fact, you blog is one of the few I still subscribe to.

Wow! I wanted to say that I love the added decoration to the pie crust! I did that years ago using two pre-made pie crust from the grocery store. One for the pie plate and the other for the leaves. But like your other followers, I would seriously miss your blog.

Golly, why does good stuff that seems to be working just fine, have to haul off and get so complicated . . . I, too, don't understand the feed-burner aspect of all of this and surely wasn't aware of the ramifications . . . like your many forever fans, I do check in at the Cottage most every morning and often before coffee!!! YES, before coffee. That's how much I anticipate and enjoy my visits. You have inspired me with your work ethic, sense of order, sense of humor, respect for your heritage and time honored traditions. You continually introduce me to your own discoveries, challenges, heartache, achievements, observations, and goals. Your recommendations for literature, movies, programs never have disappointed . . . Several winters back your remedy soothed my raw throat! I've come to think of and trust you as a friend though we never have met . . . still. I have been a guest in your come via your beautiful photographs . . . a genuine form of hospitality. And, I love how you solve/resolve dilemmas with physical activity/chores. I share that with you and long ago dubbed this inclination as the Morganstern Response after watching episodes of Rhoda where-in Rhoda's mother, Mrs. Morganstern, conquered stressful situations by vigorously vacuuming with her mighty Electrolux.
So we go into this new day with you . . . all the better for having read this most recent post. Thank you for taking us behind the scene of a blogger. We need to be aware of this.

Oh No! I got a little scared when I read your comments yesterday. I only subscribe to two blogs and look forward to yours every day. I live in Oregon on the southern coast and I so enjoy the photos of your property as the seasons change. We don't get snow here. I never remember to check Instagram so that tells you right there that it doesn't draw me in. Keep up the good work, Rosemary. We don't want you to lose you.

Williams Sonoma have great pie crust cutters with nice detail! Was lucky enough to live near and WS outlet and would get all the holiday pie cutters at 75% at the end of each season! Enjoy your blog immensely!

I enjoy your blog so much! It's always the first email I click on when I open the computer in the morning because I know there is going to be some kind of terrific photo there that I can just gaze at and enjoy. Thank you for taking the time to blog! So sorry you lost so many readers, they are missing out!

Rosemary, your blog is lovely and inspiring. Like when I feel lazy and then read what you do! I have thought about how much time it takes to create your ideas and then put them into such interesting posts. I don’t comment much, but I check your blog at least every other day. Stay with your typical positive thoughts and keep going. We would really miss you.

Rosemary,

I agree with what everyone else has said. I love your blog and check it every day. I especially liked your post about your Singer sewing machine. I have and use my mother's, which she purchased on layaway shortly after she was married in 1940. When she bought a new one in 1960, she gave me the portable. I now have both machines, but I prefer the first one. Please don't stop posting!

YES! I second what Gail in Northern California wrote in her second comment about TV program recommendations. And I should tell you......You are the only reason I ever watched Downton Abbey!! That’s big! I watch so little TV, I did not know it existed. Way back, you wrote a post about the show. I thought, I should try that one. I believe I had to play catch up, but I was hooked and never missed one. Thank you for the many hours of pleasure. Sometimes we just don’t know what an impact we have on others. I should have told you earlier, but I think know might be a good time too.

I never comment but I love your blog. Instagram just isn't the same. You live in the same town where my grandparents lived and I love the glimpses of a place I hold dear from many years ago.

I don't post often but check your blog every day. I love your beautiful blog, it's the first one I ever followed and I consider you a friend! Your Mother, Webster, Tabitha, your home and yard, all so lovely and friendly. Thank you! XOXO

I'm just now seeing this post as I don't check my blogs every day. What I like most about your posts is they aren't political and are always kind/pleasant. If only:)

Rosemary, I rarely comment also, but not for lack of interest by a long stretch. I love your blog and read it daily. It is the only thing that I make sure to open in my tons of daily emails. Some days it is just for pleasure, other days it's a must, to help make me feel better or good about something in these crazy times we are having. I need to have your wonderful pictures or comments to take my mind off sad or ugly world issues. It always works! I agree with so many of the previous commentors, that you give us all so much. I think we all agree that you are a bright spot in our days! That said, you must do what's right for you. I had no idea about feed burner, or clicking on adds, but from now on, will read it on my desktop some, so I can click away, if it will keep you coming to my email each day. Thank you for all you do. PS, I still miss Baxter so much.

I don’t know you personally but somehow I feel like we’re kindred spirits. I was so happy when I found your blog. I love getting your email; always something interesting. I would feel like I had lost a friend if you stopped blogging. You appreciate wonder and beauty and that comes through in what you post. Thank you.

I have unsubscribed to almost all the blogs I used to read. Some just were no longer of interest, and some had gotten mean and nasty. But yours continues to be a delight. Good recommendations, good photos, good humor. I follow you on Instagram as well, but I would really miss your blog. I don’t blog, but I do write a column for our guild and often wonder what I have to say. I know getting something out every day is a real feat. So thanks for keeping your loyal readers happy on a daily basis.

Rosemary, As one who has come to your blog much later than the others, I implore you to keep it up. Not being a blogger, I'm not familiar with the negatives, however, you have, in every posting, brought a smile to my lips and a comforting, at home feeling in the mind. Thank you for that.
On this day, you left a link to the pastry 'leaf cutters', which I have now ordered! So tickled to see such for adding to 'plain old pies'.
Please keep in mind the joy you spread to those of us who check in with someone who understands our love of old things, flowers, pets, England - all things beautiful. Thank you again for all these postings that I can explore.

HI Rosemary! I realize you posted this awhile ago, but I didn't get a chance to comment at that time. I see that you have continued blogging and I am so happy. I have been reading your blog for many years--I especially enjoy it as I grew up in Madison, N.J., and so many of the things and places that you mention are familiar to me. You even posted a house for sale awhile ago that was a few houses down from where I lived. I begin every day with a cup of coffee and your blog, and I frequently end my day with a cup of tea and a second review of your blog to see if you posted anything new during the day. Whatever/whenever you post, it makes me smile. Thank you for continually providing such a bright spot in my day!
