The Peacock House of Furlow Gatewood

His houses are follies—each has been an excuse to indulge his passions for vernacular Southern architecture, collecting antiques, and interior design. Peacock House is a typical Gatewood creation: He assembled a motley but sublime collection of architectural fragments, designed the house around them, and had a wondrously understanding builder bring it to life. Seeing the pictures of Furlow Gatewood's cottage makes me rethink the definition I've always had of the word cottage. It is for sure a simple house in the country, but its contents are far from simple. I call it jaw-dropping gorgeous.

I'm so tempted to buy the book. He has such a passion for antique collections and puts rooms together beautifully.

JudyMac -- He lives not far from you in Americus GA and he has a collection of cottages that he moved there. There is a book about him -- One Man's Folly: The Exceptional House of Furlow Gatewood by Julia Reed

I think the man is exceptional too because he's still going strong and he's 92 years old!!!

Rosemary, if I ever hear that he is giving tours of the houses, you can bet I will get in line. The book is on my wish list.
