I know what you mean about your peonies...they are my favorite flower...I live in N. California and have never tried growing them, though I know some folks do have success with certain ones.
Peonies make me very happy and I always splurge on some cut stems from Trader Joe's each Spring. They were late this year, but finally came. Another of my favorites are lilacs which are also a bit unusual to find growing here, though I've seen a few.
These flowers remind me of my childhood home in N. Virginia where we had both. :)
