My Cottage Painting Project is Finished

Well, I had the window surround on the door and the muntins painted white. I think it makes a big difference. It's finally finished and I am very pleased. Don't forget, I have another little wing behind the picket fence on the left. I am going to run a hot bath with 2 cups of epsom salts added and soak my weary bones. I've been going full speed since before 8 this morning and it's 6:25 pm right now. This house painting/repair projected took 10 full working days and I couldn't be more pleased. The weather was fabulous with no humidity and not a drop of rain. I just heard the weatherman on the news say it hasn't rained here for 11 days. I cannot believe my good luck but I think I deserve it! My barn isn't this red but all of the other colors in this iPhone photo are true.

The paint job is lovely! I'm glad you decided to put the shutters back up, and love the paint on them as well as the door. Adds a nice contrast with the white. Choosing colors is so hard to do! Great job! Love your blog!

It looks fantastic. You deserve more than a soak in the tub (although you definitely earned that as well). Painting for 10 straight days would be a killer, but the end results sure are wonderful.

You deserved that bath after 10 days of paint supervising and what an amazing pay off. The cottage looks refreshed, charmingly beautiful and ready for a continued long and happy life. As said in an Indy Jones movie, "You have chosen wisely."

Cindy...
The shutters are painted BENNINGTON GREY. It is normally by Benjamin Moore but my painter had it custom mixed by Sherwin Williams the maker of my Duration white paint. They did a great job. The interior of my cottage is Lancaster Whitewash walls with Bennington Grey trim by BM. When I open my front door the color matches my interior paint perfectly even though the Exterior and Interior formulas are different. I gave my painter a piece of wood left over from my 2003 interior paint job.
Bennington Grey is a real chameleon color. In some light it looks beige, in others it has a touch of green, in others it is a "no-color" color. Outside in certain light it looks like a camel hair coat. This morning when I woke up the shutters outside my bedroom on the north side of the house looked like butterscotch pudding. As the paint cures, it will tone down.
As someone mentioned, it is uncommon but it looks great with my brick wall and chimney. Every other white house in my town has black or Essex Green shutters and I wanted something different. I have a grove of spruce trees along the road close to my cottage and I wanted something with a lighter palate so the green pollen in the spring wouldn't stand out so much. I have a black railing around my balcony in the back and that green stuff is embedded in the corners even after a super power washing.
End of story.
