Follow Up on ENDEAVOUR on PBS Masterpiece Mystery

Shaun Evans is Endeavour Morse,
a detective fond of puzzles and poetry.
Did you watch last night? I did and I kept falling asleep. I want to watch again to see if it was because it seemed slow and complicated or because I was tired. I emailed a friend in Massachusetts and she felt the same way even though we both loved the Pilot.

I found a great review in The New York Times. Here's part of it . . . "those who watch mysteries for the mystery — may lose patience as the episode’s overly complicated plot, involving a dead secretary, a doctor murdered in a public restroom, a series of post office robberies and a love child, is resolved haphazardly and implausibly." Now I feel better and I'll stick with the series even if I have to find a review the next day to explain it to me.

I missed out on DCI Banks when it first started so I plan to watch Season I online. I've seen bits and pieces of it when I was switching channels and it looks good too. Thank you, New York Times!

Oh dear! I am sorry to hear that.I have not got a TV connection and was planning to watch Endeavor tonight on my IPad. I thought the first Endeavor was great. That plot was complicated enough for me. Accents cause me to misunderstand some of what is said.

I always use the earphones when I watch movies or tv shows on my iPad. I think you should still watch this episode even though it's a bit complicated. I usually find English shows are easier to understand on the iPad because it's so up close and personal. I do not have a giant TV in my bedroom---only 17 inches--but it's hi-def and a flat screen. Sometimes I have to pause the set and get out of bed and walk up to the screen if there is a note to read in the program. So many programs have text messages on cell phones that you must read too. Don't give up on Endeavour quite yet!!!

He is very brooding and moody though!

Can't wait for Doc Martin to return!!

Cheers!

That's funny that you fell asleep...so did I, but not because the show wasn't good! Will try to watch it again on my iPad! The pilot was excellent. The lead actor was in another series I watched a few years go, but I can't remember the name. He played a good brother who turned bad! Best, Judy

I haven't watched our recorded episode of Endeavor but I'm happy to have the heads up and the Cliff notes.
I watched DCI Banks and I like it, but it certainly was a dark episode.

I find it is helpful to put on the closed captioning the first time I watch a Brit show on TV although it is not always available. I thought this second Endeavor was really difficult to understand but I enjoyed it anyway.

I'm a complete sucker for all those Brit series. I can't wait for the next Sherlock, the last of the Hercule Poirot stories, more of Foyles War, Downton Abbey, even though the last one ended on such a downer, and of course Doc Martin. One of the favorite gifts my husband gave me several years ago was all of the "As Time Goes By" series.

The BBC is now doing a remake of Poldark (6 hrs), one of the original PBS Masterpiece series, although I don't think it will be as good as the first one. (2 seasons, 28 hours) Robin Ellis, who starred in it, was the Collin Firth/Dan Stevens of the late 70's.
