Piggy Sleeps with an Elephant

I can't find the tiger stuffed toy that Piggy normally sleeps with when he comes to visit. He seems just as pleased with this elephant because it has a squeaker inside, and that's a good thing! I took this iPhone photo last night to send to his humans. How could they NOT be missing this cutie pie?

Audubon's Birds of America - One Page Per Day

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – One of the world's rarest and most valuable books is out of the vault and on public view as part of an unusual daily ritual at the oldest natural history museum in the United States.
Every weekday at 3:15 p.m., a white-gloved staff member of the Academy of Natural Sciences lifts the locked protective cover from 19th century naturalist John James Audubon's influential book, The Birds of America, and turns a double elephant folio linen-backed page to reveal the bird of the day. More than 180 years after Audubon created the life-size illustrations that now link his name with ornithology, their vibrant watercolors and fine details are still remarkable.
Full article here. View the birds being unveiled day by day.

Babysitting for Peanuts

I wish I knew more about the history of this fascinating vintage photo from Life magazine showing an elephant nursemaid pushing a baby carriage. Were they running away to join the circus? via

Pinterest Pet Peeve

I really don't like to waste time and nothing is more frustrating than finding something I really like on Pinterest and the link doesn't take me there.

Elephants Reunited After 22 Years Apart

Watch the short film here.
This wonderful film was created by world-renowned filmmaker Allison Argo from ArgoFilms. Read more of this story on PBS. I want to know everything there is to know about Shirley and Jenny...free at last to live out their years together. This footage proves that elephants never forget.
Shirley and Jenny, two crippled elephants were reunited at The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee after a 22-year separation. The bonding was immediate, intense and unforgettable between the two former circus elephants. But long after the cameras were turned off, the wondrous moments would continue. Snif, snif.

Elephant Landmine Victim with New Prosthetic Leg

Raising her trunk, three-legged Mosha salutes her new prosthetic limb, which means she can get back on the jungle trail. She lost her leg at age 7 months in a landmine accident. Now she is 3 years old and has grown so much that she is now on her second 'jumbo-sized' artificial limb. See many more photos and a video too about this heartwarming story . . . here.

I wish someone would arrange a photo shoot with the giant tortoise I blogged about recently with a most unusual artificial front leg. Doctors who treat injured animals are heroes in my book.

Wrinkles Can Be Beautiful

Especially on an elephant. They can live to be as old as 86 and this looks like an old old. She wears her wrinkles well.

I have a meeting this morning and hopefully some good houses will be on the open house tour. I rather doubt it though because so many people are away. See you later.
