Seed Saving Envelope 2022

Gail, northern California

This is the best I could do.
I lost all of my old patterns and the software
to create them when my desktop computer
crashed years ago. I did pasted 22 on top of
one I already had printed. It's not exactly
the same size but it's close

Corn that Looks like Candy

I've never seen Jellybean Corn but I love it. It's fun and beautiful too. It's edible and you can pop the kernels too. Buy seeds here where it's called Glass Gem. Here is part of the story of this technicolor corn -- "Like many heirloom treasures, Glass Gem corn has a name, a place, and a story. Its origin traces back to Carl Barnes, a part-Cherokee farmer living in Oklahoma. Barnes had an uncanny knack for corn breeding. More specifically, he excelled at selecting and saving seed from those cobs that exhibited vivid, translucent colors. Exactly how long Barnes worked on Glass Gem—how many successive seasons he carefully chose, saved, and replanted these special seeds—is unknown. But after many years, his painstaking efforts created a wondrous corn cultivar that has now captivated thousands of people around the world." Read the rest of the story here.

Egg Carton + Egg Shell Seed Starters

I must start saving my egg shells to use in the lid of the egg carton. I adore this idea for a DIY seed starting kit. Be sure to buy your eggs in paper cartons from now on. It is cold and wintery today with a mixture of rain and snow and slippery roads. A friend just called and she said she had to use her four-wheel drive to get home from an early morning appointment. I'm not going out at all except to walk to the mailbox once the mailman arrives late this afternoon. Be safe wherever you are. xo

DIY Fabric Shoe Bag to Love

I found this photo in a box of magazine clippings I've been saving and I still love. Sorry, there were no instructions. I made a shoe storage bag without a pattern years and years ago. I made it the width and height of my closet door and it was wonderful. My mother ended up with it in her condo in Charlotte before she came to live with me, so it lived a long life. We gave it to one of her friends so it's still being used. If you have some fabric that makes your heart sing (yes, there are such things), this is a great project for you. This one was designed around the width of the clothes hanger. The one I made had metal eyelets across the top for nails and the fabric was folded over several times for reinforcement to hold the weight. The one above illustrates the creative uses you can come up with for your own needs, such as storing and saving seed envelopes.

I found a youtube video with instructions https://youtu.be/30idKV4qZnk - there is a link within for illustrated step-by-step instructions.

Seed Saving Envelope

I designed this seed saving envelope back in 2011. Now is the time to start saving your seeds so I thought I should publish it again. Click on the image to print it full size. Turn the page around and print another to get two on one page. You can also save the photo to your photo editing software to adjust the size to your liking and print multiples on a page. Share your seeds with a friend. Tuck into an envelope along with a card as a small gift. xo

How to Make Your Own Seed Tape | Tutorial DIY

I've spent quite a lot of time lately cleaning up all my bookmarks. I ran across this site I've been saving forever and it's the perfect time to post this wonderful tutorial since summer's over and there are tons of seeds to be saved. This is the ultimate recycling project that looks like a lot of fun.

"The intent of seed tape is to make planting easier when you have teeny tiny seeds that need to be planted just inches apart (like carrots and radishes). But it’s also fun for gifting flower seeds or giving away seeds you’ve collected from your own garden. And it’s a pretty simple and very kid-friendly project." How to Make Your Own Seed Tape

Don't forget this little seed planting rhyme:
"One for the fox, one for the crow, one to rot, and one to grow."

Seed Saving Envelopes for 2009 :: Free Download . . .

Click on the thumbnail above for full-size printable images with 2 envelopes per page.

I had a special request from a reader to design a seed saving envelope for 2009. I used a little play on words for some gardening humor :-)

You might want to look at other seed saving packets I've offered in earlier posts.

Thanks for stopping by the cottage for another DIY free download. Collect some seeds this weekend if you can. Give them to your friends as gifts. These little envelopes are perfect to insert inside a card of any sort. Christmas will be here long before I am ready for it! ♥Rosemary

Seed Saving Envelopes | Free Download . . .

I created another seed saver envelope as a free download for you.

I am still working on seeds from last summer. My friend Lynn brought me some of her black eyed susan tops from the Berkshires and they are nice and dry now. Later on today I plan on dealing with them and putting the seeds in my new packets.

Click on the image above and then print it. I wanted these envelopes to be somewhat smaller than my previous designs and I wanted two to a page. Enjoy.

Seed Saving Envelope, One Big One | Free Download . . .

I just finished crushing my Black Eyed Susan heads into seeds. The tiny envelopes were much too small for the large amount of seeds I got. So I made one big seed saving envelope for you to download.

Click on the image above and print. Enjoy.

FREE DOWNLOAD Seed Saving Envelope for 2008 . . .

Seeds are maturing everywhere in my garden. The cilantro berries are nice and big. I will harvest and save them for my culinary garden next year.

Friday is usually an off day for blog viewing so I decided to give something away. I made a pdf document of the seed saving envelope shown above. It is fresh off the presses...I designed it this morning. You will see that it prints beautifully in a nice large size. Use it for big seeds or as a master envelope for the smaller ones I made for you earlier in the year. Search for them on my blog. They are filed under "seedpacket pattern".
