Some Wonderful Summer Cabins

This cabin by San Francisco-based Nick Noyes Architecture sits on a 60-foot-wide ocean bluff in the Sonoma County coastal community of Sea Ranch. A copper-clad chimney connects two wings shielding an inner courtyard from the coastal winds.

This East Hampton residence by NYC-based Billinkoff Architecture is comprised of a string of small buildings connected by an indoor corridor, maximizing opportunities for indoor/outdoor living.

This beach cottage by Rohleder Borges Architecture with interiors by Bainbridge Island, Washington-based Michelle Burgess Design welcomes guests with a covered waterfront sitting porch.

This 1920s creekside cabin in Calistoga, California, was remodeled by Sonoma-based Amy A. Alper, Architect. The original layout of the weekend home occluded views of the seasonal creek, so Alper designed a double-height living room addition to wrap around the exterior. Photo by Eric Rorer.

Wonderful article from Remodelista with all of the links for the individual cabins above and more.

A South Carolina Vacation Home with Equestrian Style

This is a vacation home for a family of 4 located in Spring Island, South Carolina

I posted almost all of the photos. This vacation home was build for a family from Princeton New Jersey in a South Carolina private community. They were always inspired by converted barns but wanted new construction. I think they got what they wanted and more, don't you? Read the article and see more photos here. I love the batten Bahama shutters. Size: 2,900 square feet; 3 bedrooms, 3½ bathrooms plus a 1-bedroom, 1-bath guesthouse.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, "I love real antiques in the kitchen." See more of this delightful Swedish summer house here.

Martha's Vineyard poster

I had one of the best vacations I've ever had when I took a two week photography workshop on Martha's Vineyard in the late 1970s. I rented a tiny cottage in Menemsha called The Paint Box and I drove there all by myself from New Jersey with 2 dogs and a cat. We almost missed the ferry too. It was so much fun. I like the Vineyard better than Nantucket because of the variety. The towns are so diverse! Which of those islands off Cape Cod do you prefer?

Great Sleeping Alcove

It doesn't get much better than this, does it? What could two children possibly find to fight about in this wonderful sleeping alcove overlooking the water? via

A Bed by the Window

My virtual bedroom for tonight. I love the deep windowsill that serves as an extra bedside table. Wouldn't it be fun to wake up and see a water view the very minute you opened your eyes?

A Seaside House

A beautiful house by the sea at dusk with the lights on inside. I love the many places to look out at the surroundings. I think I'd like to be in the gazebo room on the third level rather than the widow's walk. I'd feel safer there...you know me and my fear of heights. The a/c is on full blast in my house as of about an hour ago. It's so hot outside.

Twig Bed on A Sleeping Porch

This looks heavenly to me. A twig tester bed outfitted with a Hudson's Bay point blanket and pillows on a sleeping porch. I've chosen this room as my virtual bedroom for the whole weekend. Hope you have a great one too. I know I will.

Outdoor Shower Locations

Which location would you choose for your outside shower?

Near the house enclosed by a privacy fence?
or

Near the clothesline out in the open?

Nap Time

Isn't this the perfect place for my virtual afternoon nap? I might actually take one to rest up for some sundown weeding. It's too hot right now and the area that needs my attention is in full sun.

By Magic, I Woke Up In This Bedroom

I went to sleep last night in a barn and by magic I woke up in a bed overlooking a lake. Pretty cool, don't you think? I love the way the center window opens up. All things are possible via blogging.
