The Shambles Bookshop in York UK

A great photo of a wonderful bookshop found on Instagram posted by @dustyatticrarebooks here. I read some of the comments and it seems the shop DOES have a name, The Shambles located in York, England UK. This Instagram feed is perfect for the armchair traveler. It's full of old bookshops photographed from the street and their interiors full of old books. What could be better? Enjoy.

A Curious Dog in Mother Goose Rhymes

Missy hasn't been doing any of these strange things. I thought this dog looked like her breed though. So far, we are having a quiet Sunday morning after a chilly brisk walk. She's patiently awaiting her breakfast but isn't begging.
Just waiting.

See more of these delightful woodcuts of this dog doing funny things when the owner goes out to get him something.

Have a great Sunday. xo

Library off Living Room

I adore the wide board floors with the beautiful patina. The library off the living room looks as if it has bookshelves on all the walls and that's a good thing because you can't have too many (books or shelves). via

Making The Most of My Free Time

This experiment is a huge success. I was able to create a blog post using an old photo from my library, resizing it, and adding the text using my new favorite font.

George Eliot Quote: Feeling Safe

Mary Ann Evans, known by her pen name George Eliot, was an English novelist, poet, journalist, translator, and one of the leading writers of the Victorian era.

I love this quote. via

Wonderful 19th Century Bookplate

How wonderful. I couldn't agree more. I still think about certain books I loaned out and never got back. I remember one in particular and know who has it but it's a book I can live without. When I was very young, I turned down the corners of book pages and then I quit. It still pains me to think about all those times I hurt a book. via

Mother Goose's Nursery Rhymes Set to Music: Old Book

I found an old book at an estate sale that is full of pages like this, each one with an engraving. I cannot read music so I don't know if I would recognize the tune. I always liked the Crooked Man rhyme as a child. I don't remember the chair part of the Pussy Cat rhyme. The cat did a great service and the Queen never knew!

Enjoy your Sunday. xo

1917 Illustration from a Children's Book

Sweetest illustration by Janet Laura Scott
Verse by John G. Bowman
The book, Happy All Through The Day, was published in 1917. I love the way the girls' room is decorated. I have always loved to study interior design in children's books.

There is a hole through almost every page in the book. It was presented to a boy named George for Christmas in 1924 by his mother. George must have gotten a compass too. He practiced drawing circles on the back cover and the sharp pointed thing made a hole like the one above. I was able to clone it out in the first photo using iPhoto on my Mac.
