Seed Saving Envelopes for 2009 :: Free Download . . .
I had a special request from a reader to design a seed saving envelope for 2009. I used a little play on words for some gardening humor :-)
You might want to look at other seed saving packets I've offered in earlier posts.
Thanks for stopping by the cottage for another DIY free download. Collect some seeds this weekend if you can. Give them to your friends as gifts. These little envelopes are perfect to insert inside a card of any sort. Christmas will be here long before I am ready for it! ♥Rosemary

Hermès Kelly Bag | Origami Paper Craft | FREE DOWNLOAD . . .
Plain white paper Kelly bag.
Make this Hermès Kelly Bag from two sheets of card stock. Use it as a gift bag for a small present for a special friend. Personalize it any way you want. Paint it, print it on colored stock, or add your own custom elements. Let your creativity go wild.
This craft project is not for the faint of heart. It looks pretty intricate and I have not actually tried to make this bag. Maybe you should use plain old inkjet paper for your first one because that would be much easier to fold.
Anyway, here it is. DOWNLOAD HERE! Note: This is no longer available on the Hermès site, but luckily I found someone who saved it to their site. Updated 12/09/2020
These origami Kelly bags would be fabulous place cards for your holiday table or fancy dinner party with a small gift inside for each female guest.

Seed Saving Envelopes | Free Download . . .
I created another seed saver envelope as a free download for you.
I am still working on seeds from last summer. My friend Lynn brought me some of her black eyed susan tops from the Berkshires and they are nice and dry now. Later on today I plan on dealing with them and putting the seeds in my new packets.
Click on the image above and then print it. I wanted these envelopes to be somewhat smaller than my previous designs and I wanted two to a page. Enjoy.

Antique-loving dog + a Fireworks Video + Free Fonts to download . . .
Webster loves to rumple up this rug and use the back rung of an 18thC armchair as a chin rest. He does this all the time so it must be comfortable. It makes me laugh to see him in this awkward-looking position.
I love this font called Cursif. Looks like real handwriting.

"Don't throw the smaller pieces of broken clay pots away. Those smaller pieces that have a hole in the top make wonderful homes for spiders, who are among some of a garden's best tenants. Invite them in!"
This wonderful tip was sent to me via email from a reader. Thanks, Mayo.

FREE DOWNLOAD | 2009 Geosphere Origami Calendar (12 sided) . . .
This was my #1 favorite download last year. This 12-sided calendar also known as a rhombic dodecahedral lived on my desk for the entire year. When 2008 became 2009 I could not remember what this shape was called until I saw something on the Internet today about a "geosphere" and a light bulb went off in my head. This word enabled me to find the download for 2009. This is how I will be spending part of my day...folding and pasting. It's pretty tricky at the end if I remember correctly. I used card stock. Enjoy!

I don't know if I can correctly call this origami because it requires glue. The original website offers a glueless version too. Here's the link for both versions with helpful hints. You can thank me later. Have fun, Rosemary DOWNLOAD 2010 CALENDAR HERE.

I just finished crushing my Black Eyed Susan heads into seeds. The tiny envelopes were much too small for the large amount of seeds I got. So I made one big seed saving envelope for you to download.

Today is National Handwriting Day and Neatness Counts
Get out your pens boys and girls. It's time for penmanship. Oh, how I loved this class in the fourth grade! It was such a rite of passage to leave the childish printing behind and learn CURSIVE.
I looked through my flat files and found this page from Lena Carroll's 1873 lesson book.
This is a screen capture from an online website that teaches children cursive. When you mouseover each letter, it shows you how to write it. See 2nd link at end of this post.
This is a penmanship exercise from the late 19th century that I found online and copied.
You can download and print these cursive flash cards ~ see the last link below.
Today really is National Handwriting Day. I hope you will take the time to read the full article from The Boston Globe (first link below). It really made my hair stand on end when I read that there are 20 and 30 year olds that can't read cursive! How can this be? I can understand when 5 year olds say they can't read script but not young adults. What has happened?
I read an article recently about a young girl who sent 35,000 text messages in one month. We e-mail, we text, we Twitter - what will become of handwriting? Parents should insist that their children are taught these basic skills. It would be a real handicap later in life to be illerate in cursive and incapable of executing a handwritten letter or thank you note in your best penmanship.
I still have the fountain pen that I got as a high school graduation present and I have some bottles of real ink too. In my desk I have quite an assortment of antique writing instruments acquired over the years from relatives or purchased at estate sales. Sadly, I don't use them as much as I used to but I could if I wanted!
Try to write something beautiful today in your best hand to celebrate this special day and help keep handwriting alive.
Feel free to comment if you have any strong feelings on this subject. Thanks, Rosemary
