These birds make such beautiful music . . .

Birds on the Wires from Jarbas Agnelli on Vimeo.

While reading a newspaper, the composer saw a picture of birds on the electric wires. He cut out the photo and decided to make a song, using the exact location of the birds as notes (using no Photoshop editing). Mr. Agnelli knew it wasn't the most original idea in the universe, he was just curious to hear what melody the birds were creating.

Thanks for stopping by the cottage to watch something that is both interesting and beautiful. ♥Rosemary

Links for Sunday ~ TV or a Movie? . . .

Happy Sunday. The first photo cracks me up. According to the caption I read when I found this on the web, this person rides around with his dog on his back for more than 2 miles. They are both a local attraction somewhere in California.

I know what I'm doing tonight at 10 PM.
I'll be watching the season premier of Mad Men.

Before you go to the movies, check out this site: it's great!

That's it for today. Enjoy your Sunday whatever you do. Thanks for stopping by the cottage for some of my media news and reviews. ♥Rosemary

A short film for your enjoyment and amazement . . .

Promise me that you will at least look at a little bit of this film! It is one of the most imaginative things I've ever seen. Really!!!

The Notebook by Evelien Lohbeck

I don't know how this Dutch animator did any of the illusions in this short experimental film. She somehow turned that paper notebook into a computer, a scanner, a mirror and a toaster.

All I can say is, "Wow!"

Happy Friday. Thanks for stopping by the cottage today. ♥Rosemary

GREY GARDENS before and after with slide show + video + footage from the original documentary film

Many of you are watching GREY GARDENS on HBO. I wonder how many of you saw the original documentary film that was made 34 years ago by Albert Maysles and his brother. I found it at my local library years ago and found it very difficult to watch.

Thirty-four years after a documentary film introduced the world to Grey Gardens and its eccentric occupants, a new movie on HBO is again casting light on the legend of this East Hampton property. In 1979, when the last photo was taken, Sally Quinn, the writer and Washington hostess, and her husband Benjamin Bradlee, former editor of The Washington Post, purchased the property, which had fallen into complete disarray, and set out to restore it to its earlier splendor.

View the slide show with 12 photos via The New York Times.

Albert Maysles visited Grey Gardens to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his film several years ago after the house and gardens were restored. This 10-minute film from YouTube shows Maysles' reaction with footage from the original documentary. This will give you a glimpse into the "real Grey Gardens" and the two Edies. Don't say I didn't warn you about how shocking it was while the two eccentrics were in residence.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today for a visit. I hope you found this post to be informative and entertaining. I don't have HBO, do you? Should I get it? Are you enjoying Grey Gardens? Let me know. ♥Rosemary

A wonderful short film . . .

The three following images are stills from a very short film that never ceases to amaze me. It is absolutely magical ... in every way. How does this artist do these special effects as she turns the pages of her book? There is obviously a camera in the lamp that assists her in superimposing the black and white book images with moving colored cutouts that can go behind, over, under, and off the page. Please watch ... you will be so happy you did.

PS...Use your Back Button to return to my blog at the end of the film.

Watch the short film.

I knew you would like it! Aren't you glad I keep finding such wonderful things? ♥Rosemary

The American Presidents [song and film] . . .

Listen to this wonderful podcast from whitehouse.org and learn the song that lists the American Presidents in order. It requires Flash which you will have to download if you don't have it. Don't ask me how...you will have to figure out that part. Click on the image above or the link I have provided to watch the film and hear the podcast. After you have listened to it once you might want to print the lyrics so you and your family can memorize the song. It was written by Genevieve Madeline Ryan, a Princeton student. More facts about our Presidents compiled by Miss Ryan.

The Face of The Great Depression | Update (video) . . .

As the U.S. slips into recession, a daughter reflects on Dorothea Lange's photo, which has come to symbolize the Depression.

'Migrant Mother' remembered (3:41)

A friend sent me the original CNN video but I could not embed it for some reason. Luckily I found it on YouTube. I found it very interesting to learn the real story of the most famous photograph from the Great Depression from one of the children in the picture. She is the little girl on the left with her head on her mother's shoulder.

Watch and listen.
There is a very timely message at the end.
