My Entrance Vestibule

My vestibule, photographed with the wide-angle lens. The front door is on the left. Door opening into my kitchen is on the right. Behind me is a coat closet with door. Each wall flanking closet has coat hooks and there is a tray for wet boots on the floor with a bootjack for easy removal. This area was a covered porch when I bought my cottage and the front door was on the wall where the chair is located. I could never have gotten my furniture in the house without my current setup. The outside of my cottage looks as if it has always been this way. That's always a good sign of a thoughtful restoration. I'm meeting two girlfriends later for an early dinner.

What a wonderful space! One of the things I've missed most is the large foyer we had in our farmhouse. You have lots of room and everything looks so organized. It's attractive and functional--my favorite duo.

Pam -- It's the perfect decompression zone between outside and inside and it serves many purposes. I don't know what I would do without it. I can understand why you miss the large foyer you left behind when you moved from your farmhouse. But you have happy memories of it.

How did I miss your fabulous vestibule? It leverages your life better.

Girlfriend just left. She dropped off 2 nites dinner. Am still recuperating from surgery. Humbled at outpouring from friends.

Have great dinner and joy with your girlfriends !

So Much Glory -- Thank you. The trim color is the same as I have all over my house -- Benjamin Moore Bennington Gray. It looks a little green in this photo but it's a putty color.

Have a wonderful dinner. Forgive my ignorance, but What is vestibule? I live in California, so we are unaccustomed to these things!

A vestibule is such a great space to have, and you have made excellent use of yours. I'm quite envious. I hope you enjoyed your dinner with your girlfriends. I'm going out to lunch with one of mine today.

Lisa D. -- Lisa, Vestibule definition: a passage, hall, or room between the outer door and the interior of a building. Mine isn't long enough to be called an entrance hall or foyer. A wet snow is falling this morning at my cottage and I went out in my boots to feed the birds. Without my vestibule, the wet boots would be in my kitchen. I have a friend who has a tiny one she leaves unlocked on the outside door so packages can be delivered without being out in the weather. Thanks for asking.

Tasha T -- I don't know what I would do without this space where I can kick off my boots and hang my wet slicker and umbrella on a hook to drip dry. My dinner with two girlfriends was great and I hope your lunch with friends was too.
