Bookshelves / Library in My Spare Room

These are all of my reference books in my dressing room. That's what I call my extra bedroom because it has a closet. I sleep in the back room that has an identical custom bookcase scaled down for the smaller space. I added both when renovating my cottage. On these shelves I have reference books on antiques, architectural reference books, gardening, birds, New Jersey. Many are broken down into categories like antique furniture, antique silver, antique houses, antique prints, etc. and many DIY books. I need to get in this room and rearrange a bit and return some books I pulled out so the remaining ones are currently leaning. You can never have too many books, can you? Have a great Sunday. xo

We are lovers of books here, too. We have a bookshelf over each of our south facing double hung windows and the one facing north in our kitchen. Also a built-in bookshelf in the living room, just below the ceiling on the south and east walls. More books throughout the house on cabinets, shelves and hutches. (Sounds like a jumble, doesn't it? It's not as I couldn't stand that.) Then there's my husband's office up above the living room. Ugh, someday I will convince him I can organize the books there so they will be handier and look better! As always, love seeing shots of the interior of your home.

Leaning books bother me. I always had lots of bookends so all my books would stand upright no matter how many I pulled out.

Mama Pea, WOW. You have books everywhere and I love that! I'm sure they all look wonderful too. You can never have too many books or bookshelves and they make a home look so cozy. I should have neatened mine in my spare room but I never look at them from that direction and walking down the hall looking into that room you cannot see the bookcase. xo, Rosemary

Linda Sand -- Great idea. I have a pair of heavy owl bookends in the attic. I will use them to prop up my leaning books. Thanks! xo, Rosemary

Your dressing room is a great, functional space, Rosemary. I love built-ins! I especially like the cabinets below your shelves. Sometimes we want to display items, other times, not so much.

Good

Pam -- I agree. I put things I seldom wear but am not ready to donate in the lower cabinets. Sometimes I pull out something and wonder why I ever stopped. xo, Rosemary

Your room with the built in shelves took me back to my grandmother's house; the spare bedroom where I slept had such shelves. <3 There weren't many books on them, but a collection of tiny Shakespeare volumes in red leather jackets...

Gretchen Joanna, I'm so glad my shelves brought back such fond memories of spending nights in your grandmother's spare room. Her collection of tiny red leather volumes of Shakespeare were definitely tiny treasures. I hope they stayed in the family. xo, Rosemary
