Beautiful Vegetable Garden

Real gardeners live here. Is there anything more beautiful than a wheelbarrow full of freshly picked vegetables? How does your garden grow? xo

Hello from the west coast of B.C., Canada. I've come via Pinterest after seeing your WINTER pin there. I like the wheelbarrow full of vegetables. Summer is the time to enjoy all the fresh produce.

What a wonderful garden. My grandparents used to garden "big" like that. It was a lot of work, but those gardens kept all of us well fed. I remember when my husband and I were first married and had bought our first home in town. We had a deep lot with really rich soil. He plowed most of it up and grew a fabulous garden. We'd walk around the neighborhood, giving things away. It was a great way to get acquainted. This year, we have several tomatoes and several varieties of cucumbers. Maybe we can break ground this fall for a decent garden next year.

Pam -- You should try to find an old book by Ruth Stout. HOW TO HAVE A GREEN THUMB WITHOUT AN ACHING BACK. I used that system with my first vegetable garden and it requires no tilling. Just plant in the turf and surround with straw, grass clippings, etc. to keep the weeds down. This system is making a comeback. I had a paperback version. You can experiment right away and see how your husband likes it. xo, Rosemary

Pam, Ruth Stout also wrote The No-Work Garden Book. Here's the Amazon link for this books with photos of her others:

There is also a hashtag on Instagram #ruthstout and #ruthstoutmethod showing current gardens people have photographed piled high with mulch. You can put these hashtage in the search box on Instagram and get started without the book. xo, Rosemary

Rosemary, thank you so much for the information about no-till gardening! In the Midwest, we are seeing farmers utilizing that approach, too. I never even thought about it for gardening. Today, I'm going to check out Ruth's books. xoxo

I am thoroughly enjoying learning about Ruth Stout! I happened to find a YouTube video of her Ruth sharing her own story on awaytogarden.com
(Margaret Roach). Her philosophy really does make good sense. I believe there are other videos, too, but this one was delightful because she did the narration and it actually showed her planting in her garden. Again, thank you, Rosemary, for sharing her name with us.

Pam -- Thanks for finding the video on YouTube with Ruth Stout herself showing her "method" of no-work gardening in her golden years. What a character!!!!! I had no idea she was so entertaining. I would have loved attending one of her "lectures". I hope you and your husband will try a row or two using her technique in your new garden. xo, Rosemary

Hello I was wondering if you took this picture? And if not if you could tell me it's origin.

God's Little Blessings -- I did not take that lovely photo of a vegetable garden. I have added the link for the photo source to the blog post. Thanks for asking. xo, Rosemary
