Brick Manor House

This is total perfection to my eyes. The design of the house is really wonderful and the brickwork is masterfully executed. The surrounding landscaping and driveway approach were nicely laid out too. Imagine living in a house with six chimneys!

I did a little research and I believe this is a new house designed after Bacon's Castle, the oldest surviving brick dwelling in America in Surry County Virginia. See photos and I think you will agree.
Click here for numerous photos of this museum.

Bacon's Castle has been closed for for interior tours while they were cleaning but will open again in March. This is definitely a "must see" house tour if you visit Virginia. xo

What a fabulously beautiful historical home. We don't see houses like this out her in the western par of the country. Thanks for sharing, Rosemary.

What a rare find! I thought the house was fabulous, and then I read its history. Amazing! It's wonderful that the public can tour it. It will be on my go-to list if I make it to Virginia, lol.

I have been to Bacon's Castle as it is referred to in Virginia (la de dah!) and it is just gorgeous! There are so many beautiful antique homes on the Northern Neck in Virginia - just drive down Rt. 5 out of Richmond and they present themselves, one after another, in the most fantastical way. You would think you were in the 18th or 19th century as the trees on Rt. 5 have been preserved and you drive in and out of shade from centuries-old oaks and maples. I highly recommend a visit to all of the plantations despite the slavery history. They are remarkably well-preserved and are an architectural education in themselves.
My former husband and I owned a lovely historic home in Ashland, VA which was used as a hospital in the Civil War. It was very haunted and the property has a cemetery to boot! I loved that house but, alas, life moves on. It took 15 years to get it on the Historic Register but it was so worth it - the Town handled most of the work and did a wonderful job. And I still miss it!

Penelope Bianchi -- Penny, I tried to find more information about the reproduction house by searching the photo using Google Lens. That took me to Bacon's Castle and I had to learn more. I had NEVER heard of this 17th century brick mansion in Virginia that is the oldest surviving brick structure in America! I will certainly post if and when I find out where the copy house is located. xo, Rosemary
